I'm having Hipec
Just got home last night from the Cancer Treatment Center of Americ. This was my best trip so far. I had a cea marker done. My original marker was 13.9 before surgery. It then went to 21.1, then to 28.1, then to 19.1 and now it's down to 8.1. This being after only 3 treatments. . I had a Ct scan done while I was there and I had good news from that as well. My lymph nodes that measured 6 mm before are now at 2 mm. One nodule decreased from 1.6 cm to a 1 cm. I'm scheduled for the Hipec procedure on May 22, 2015. A little nervous, but happy I get the procedure.

Dear Kipper, best luck with HIPEC procedure, it is a very tough one. I will pray for you. Keep us posted, I would like to know how your procedure goes. In the near future, my husband might have to do HIPEC too. Best wishes.

I am so happy to hear that your CEA is getting lower, and that you are scheduled for the HIPEC procedure. It is scary, but you know it is what you need to get this stuff outta there.
Keep us posted.

Thanks Sue, I feel like I have to try this. As you know it's a difficult area to kill the cancer. I'm amazed at how well my numbers have been after only 3 treatments. I'm a pretty healthy person now, so if I'm going to have this procedure, now is the best time to have it. Ive had so many people ask me if I truly do have cancer, because of my status of health and energy. Of course they don't see me right after having a treatment either. I was hoping to have 3 weeks notice for this procedure, but that wasn't an option. Let's get it done!!

I've read the boards on this procedure. Yes this is the mother of them all. I will have a consult with the everyone on the team. My biggest concern is I have a problem with morphine. I get so sick with it. And of course being laid open and getting sick scares the poop out of me. Thankfull, my husband is currently unemployed and will be able to help me recover.

Very best of luck to you ...
Very best of luck to you ... I am considering this surgery myself. It does seem scary .. but also a must do. Its a big decision.
I understand about the morphine sickness as well. I don't do so good on that stuff either.
Keeping you in thoughts and prayers Friday!

thats great that they think you are a good candidate for this procedure. Please post about your progress afterwards. Not many of our board members have gone to CtCA so it would be really useful to have your testimony and feedback which no doubt will be positive!
good luck on procedure day!

I can't take morphine - it makes me itch frenetically (and does nothing for my pain.) For my surgeries, I had epidurals, and then toradol and/or dilaudid or other painkillers - no morphine, and lots of anti-nausea meds. (Vomiting scares the $#&^ out of me!) Pain control was fine without morphine. (You may have to ask for an epidural - it's a super way to control pain for the first day or so post-op.)
Yes, this is the big guns, but I know people who've had this surgery with HIPEC and been out of the hospital in 10 days. Walk as soon as you can.

Yes I have and thank you fortanstaafl said:cimetidine
Have you read about or taken cimetidine before surgery? The HIPEC surgeons have used cimetidine as part of their heated chemo package on the day but other CRC patients take cimetidine for weeks or even years to stop or reduce metastasis.
Yes I have and thank you for reminding me! I want to speak to my surgeon on this to be sure it is safe to take prior to HIPEC ... being it such a large surgery .. but definitely something I want to do.
