Disappointing Oncologist Appointment
Hello All:
Here we go again...Been on a holiday for some months and CEA has jumped from 2.5 to 51.8...Scan was seemingly clear but Onc feels there is something growing just can't see it yet...Back on Chemo next week new scan in eight weeks or so.
Had my physical for a potential new position yesterday and they were already shy of me based on health, or so it seemed. Have to see how that goes and if they actually offer me the job or not...Even if they do will I be able to do well on FOLFIRI+Vectibix with the rash, diarhea and fatigue I experienced last time...SInce physical is over I 'm not sure I have to disclose or mention the change since it was disclosed to me by the Onc after the exam.
Just another day in cancer land...Maybe we could make a board game out of the cancer journey
Respectfully,
Art

Since it is not showing on
Since it is not showing on the scan, probably it is still very small or not solid enough. Hope chemo can knock it off. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Sorry
Sorry for the blood results but hopefully you can get it under control soon. Hope you get the position though. Please keep us posted.

That sucks. A piece of me
That sucks. A piece of me wants to say redo the bloodwork to see if it was just some fluke but we all know that doesn't really happen. One can wish though. Sorry for the results. Cancer monopoly? You get out of chemo every time you pass go and instead of jail, you have surgery.

Hey Art
If one can't see it, must be small, here's to chemo knocking it out quickly.
As for the job here's hoping you get it if you want it, and no, you don't have to tell them anything about your health unless you want to. In Ohio many, many years ago, I was offered a job as long as I passed my physical. I was then rejected after physical because I was pregnant, I sued (not for money, no money was involved but it was an excellent paying job and I wanted it, so sued for the job offer to b reinstated and getting employed), they ended up giving me the job back and I worked for 10 years before they did a massive lay off, and I was scond to last one hired and yet saw others with 15 years and up getting layed off before me, because I had become a valuable employee, so don't give up hope on job based on medical.

Thank you all
Thank you all for the encouragement,
There is protection under various laws from involuntary disclosure...The hook is in the preemployment physical and perceptions that are generated (IMHO)...I am hopeful that there will be a sensibility in the hiring process...Just so much fear and ignorance around the "C" word.
Yes, it would be grand if the initial chemo can knock out the disease process...Back to FOLFIRI, quite honestly, curls my toes.
OK, in Cancer Monopoly, instead of passing go one would get chemo, and, if put in jail, major surgery.
Thanks again for the encouraging words of hope.

Best wishes and prayers that the initial chemo does the job and that you get the job!

This kind of news is so demoralizing...
I'm sorry you have to face more of this crap, Art. Esp when trying to start work. That's just too much.
Has your doc given any thought to a chemo regimen that wouldn't hit you so hard with the side effects, like the xeloda/celebrex combo that a number of folks are doing now?

Good luck!
I hope you get the job! Hopefully the chemo will be easier for you this time.
It sucks that such such good people get cancer. I wonder sometimes why murderers and really bad people usually don't get it, but good hearted people do. I'm having one of those days today, just a little ticked off that my brother is going through all of this.
Anyway, let us know what happens. I'll be pulling for you!

Thank you all for the thoughts and good ideas
Hello to all,
We have not discussed past the initial push of 5FU to try and get ahead of this thing. Good idea to look into Xeloda and Celebrex...will discuss with the Oncologist when I see him again. As far as PET scans gowe have to hold on that option until perhaps last result because of insurance issues.
Once again thanks for posting to me and the great insights offered.
Respectfully,
Art
