Hole in Upper Palate / Up-date

Well I go to see my ENT tomorrow so she can check the hole in my upper palate again. Last time she check it, it was the size of a pencil now it is the size of a penny, I am not sure what she will say or want to do, that is what I am afraid of. Oh well just another day in the life of a H&N cancer patient with the gift of radiation that just keeps giving and giving. Someone needs to make a battery with this stuff in it as it seems it last for years and years.

    Not sure what they do to repair a hole in the palate but I'm sure there has to be some sort of fix. I know your trismus creates larger problems to get to it but if they can put a man on the moon, they can surely figure something out. Keep us posted and you will be in my prayers.

    Sometimes it is difficult to click on a post.  I read yours and then my tongue touched the upper gum area and there is a large divit.  Go figure.  At least I have no feeling on that side of my head.  I have an MRI on Wednesday, so far the insurance company hasn't denied that.  The gift that keeps on giving!

    Hey Hondo!  I just read so I know how you are!  I dont have hole but mine is paralized and part of reason swallowing isnt working and all of the reason my voice quality sucks!  Hearing took another nose dive!  Gotta to love rads they are big part of reason 14years is 2 months away!  Take care Buddy,

    Hey Tim,

    It is always just one more thing when it comes to the gifts from radiation.....  I do hope that your doc has a good solution for the palate hole.  My money is on just a little duct tape patch; that stuff fixes everything.

    G’day Family

    Now I really have hole in the head

    I went to see my ENT today and she wants me to do another PET scan hopping it will help her to understand why the hole in my upper palate is getting larger. Last month the hole was about 3/8 inch today it is about 5/8 inch. There is nothing there showing any type of reoccurring cancer but she wants the PET, I am not for putting any more Radiation in my body so I talked her in to just doing a CT as it will show her the same thing as a PET just without all the radiation.

    She is thinking that all it is, is what’s called Necrosis from all the radiation treatment I had years ago and maybe will send me for a second opinion with another ENT. I guess the problem now is how to stop it. She is thinking more HBO treatment but I have already had 50 dives, 10 of them just last year. Anyway I will keep you up on my progress and see what way this will all go in the end. Between this and my leaking PEG tube I am feeling great, energy level is high, and able to focus on my work that keeps my mind active, and that is a blessing. Please just keep me in your prayers as God is still in control

    Hi Goyca

    Something I learned a long time ago is that there is always a way, finding it is the problem. Sometimes it is outside the medical community so you must always be open to learn new things. Thanks

    Hospital called yesterday to let me know my ENT has me lined up for a MRI. The doctor told me she was ordering a CT, but I guess she changed her mind “just like a women”. Anyway I know she is doing some research on this with some other doctors so I guess they agreed that a MRI would be better than a CT, problems is I hate the MRI machine. Oh well guess they will need to put me to sleep for it so sweet dreams. It is set up for next week Aug the 5th.

    I didn't realize the hole

    had done all this growing in a single month!!  Glad they're getting right on it.  The MRI shows just as much as a PET, I believe....I haven't had a PET since 3 months after finishing treatment.....the Drs. seem satisfied with what it shows.  The machine tho is a pain...bang bang bang....buzz buzz buzz....you'd think they could figure out how to quiet that down in this modern age.

    Hondo, you are so positive. Please keep updates. The MRI is better than CT. Your doc want get more information by mri. God will treat you.

    Thanks everyone

    Well I am ready for tomorrow just hope my Claustrophobia don’t kick in while in the MRI machine. I been don’t very good No PET No CT and No MRI for almost 3 years, that is why I love my ENT so much, she does a scope every 3 months and if she down not see anything of concern she will not order any other type of testing. Thanks for your prayers, as soon as I get the result I will let you all know.
