So instead of being at 2:45pm tomorrow, I get to start drinking that yummy stuff at 8:45am for the scans at 10:45am.  I'm a little apprehensive about these, but hopefully they will turn out clear.  If you can, please cross your fingers for me.

    Saw the dr today

And am scheduled for a PET on Friday.  "Several" nodules in my right lung and a hyper-dense? mass on my thyroid.  On the brighter side, the spot on my liver and the 8mm spot in my left kidney haven't grown in the past three months. The place on the liver is tender to the touch, though, so maybe it's just a cyst or a bruised place.  I'm not anemic anymore! Yay!  And my GFR is 37 now!  That's up 3 points From the last bloodwork.  My creatinine is down from the last labs, and that is good.  My bloodwork is looking better than it has in a long time.  Go, me!

    Tillie.

Glad to see your GFR is going up although 37 is still way too low.   Lets see the mid 40's at least. Mine had hit a low of 41 and is now up to 47. W e both still have age aganst us and that wiil effect us negatively as we age.

    Go you!!

Oh how I admire your strength, Tillie!!  It all sounds so scary, yet you remain positive and upbeat.  I am glad you're not having to wait too long for the PET scan, and, hopefully you won't have to wait long on results.  I'll keep my fingers crossed for the best possible outcome.

Now, could someone please tell me what GFR is and where I might find mine?  I have my pathology report as well as all lab/blood work, but I don't recall seeing that.

The eGFR or GFR is the glomolar filtration rate.  Tells how well your kidney is filtering all the toxins out of your system. (I had no idea what it was 2 months ago, now listen to me! LOL) the normal rate is 60+.  Mine was 34, then 37, so it's going in the right direction.  I'm also NOT anemic anymore!  WoooHoooo! I'll never see 60 on a GFR again, but I can get into the 40's.

It'll be on your lab work.

    GFR

    Sidny,

If you serch for tittles on the first  page under Kidney Cancer and insert GFR you should find a few posts titled GFR which measures Kidney function. Having a neph lowers your GFR. Having high blood pressure lowers your GFR. Having Diabetes lowers your GFR. Getting older lowers your GFR. Once your GFR goes below 15 you go on dialysis. Very very few of us will get that low even with a neph and getting older. That is why having a normal BP is so important for us.

Addtionally a low GFR leads to heart issues. If your GFR remains too low you are much more likely to have a heart issue from decreased Kinbey function than any kind of Kidney failure. The long and the short of it is that a neph can contribute to heart issues over years that have no relation to a recurrance of RCC.

When I first saw a Nephrologist 2 years ago my GFR was 41 or 43. It is now up to 47 with more BP medication, I asked my Urologist and GP for a referrral to a Nephrologist and both said I did not need one. At the time I had a flare up of gout which is Kidney related. As I was on medicare I did not need a referral. My Nephrologist saidl I did the right thing and my GP accepts the fact that as far  BP my Nephrologist is in charge. My Urologist acknowledges I did what I did without comment.

I personally think from my own experience that any club member should see a Nephroogist with a Gout or other Kidney issue and/or a GFR under 50.

Thank you, Tillie and Iceman!  I appreciate your wisdom.  I have so much to learn but, thanks to this site and the kindness of you guys, I AM learning.  Tillie, as I poured thru my lab reports for the umpteenth time, looking for GFR or Glomolar Filtration Rate, it occured to me that all I have are records from my neph.  It probably wasn't measured then.  I had blood drawn at my 6 week post-op appointment so surely it was measured at that time, I just didn't know to ask about it.  I hate to sound naive by saying, if my GFR were too low, the doctor would have told me, but, that's really all I can do.  I have my first post-op scan (a chest x-ray), late November.   I will also have blood drawn for a CBC and CMP (?).  I will find out at that time, what my GFR is because now, I know to ask.  Knowledge is most definitely power!!  You guys ROCK!

I'll be thinking about you tomorrow, Tillie.  Sending good vibes your way and lifting you in prayer!

Thanks for the good thoughts, twinnie.  And that should be GLOMULAR...stupid fat fingers. LOL. I'll be fine no matter what the PET shows.  I had a "hinky" feeling about these last CT's and was kind of suspecting there would be something show up. Maybe I'm psycho!  Oh wait....that should say PSYCHIC! (or maybe not! ;)

Hey Tillie, I am still waiting on that glass of red! I will be thinking of you tomorrow:) To try to improve your filtration, look up the benefits of Nettle Leaf Tea. I drink Nettle an Chamomile every day, they make a nice cuppa too!

    Best Wishes

Tillie, you are in my thoughts and prayers: "May the sun bring you new energy by day.  May the moon  softly restore you by night.  May the rain  wash away your worries.  May the breeze
blow new strength into your being.  May you walk  gently through the world and know  its beauty all the days of your life." I'm just across the river if you ever want to talk. Hope all went well Friday.                                                                                    '
