    Rad Ready!

    Hi All!

Getting ready to start my Rads next Thursday. I'm curious about the Boosts.  It seems like everyone has their boosts at the end, but Im staring out with 8 days of boosts first.  Is this unusual? Any experience with boosts first?

    How are you doing

    How are you doing Debbie?

    Rads

I am in week four of rads and all of a sudden today I have a broken blood vessel in my eye, anyone know if it is rads or coincidence.  I just had a second ct scan today to get ready for boost.

Oh dear, I don't know if rads

Oh dear, I don't know if rads could do that, but, I doubt it.  Talk to your doctor and then post so we know.  Hoping your eye is better.  You will soon be done with rads.  How many more?

I had my last rad treatment

I had my last rad treatment yesterday. My side looks like fresh hamburger. They gave me a bunch of stuff to use. The main thing that really helps comes in packets that you mix with water and I can't remember what it's called. I also have aquaphor with 2% lidocaine which help a LOT!

    Congrats Charlie!   I hope

    Almost like you

One more general Rads, then I will start the boosters next week. No peeling too, just red, hot and sore. The pain under my arm is worse, the Rads technician spends some time to find a position for my arm  that doesn't hurt much. My arm's range of mobility (especially raising it upwards) is decreasing because of the Rads induced edema. I am taking anti-inflammatory meds for that.

My Rads Oncologist told me to use Biafine cream 2x daily (6 hours before Rads minimum), and it is quite effective.

I can't wait to finish Rads and I hope Tamoxifin would be kinder to my body than Chemo and Rads.

    Hi Candi

This is my 3rd week of radiation (I am supposed to take a total of 30 sessions). My doctor told me to wear only cotton material from the first session (only cotton bras too). He also said that I should not use any creams until he checks to see if I really need them. I was also told not to use any soap (only baby shampoo), no sponges (no scrubing), no deodorant near the radiated area and I should only pat my skin really carefully.

I am a little tender, but my main problem is pain under my arm (where my lymph nodes that were removed used to be), I was told that that it is the area where the beam exits the body, and that is normal.

I hope we all finish those sessions soon, I don't like them.

    Take care

    Faith

    I am getting more tender

I am getting more tender under my arm too Faith.  I didn't know that is where the beam exits.  I learn so much on here.  I can't wait to be done.

    Accuboosts

Accuboosts are radiation given while in a mammogram machine.  There are 8 treatments followed by 25 entire breast radiation treatments.  The Accuboost targets only the surgery site.  It takes a set up in a mammogram machine and you're locked in the machine from top to bottom and them from side to side for 30-40 minutes each time.  I just finished my 8th treatment last week and am so glad.  It was very painful, but I'm told that it is very beneficial.  So far all is going well.

    Debbie, those Accuboosts

Debbie, those Accuboosts sound awful!  I didn't know anything about them.  I hope the rest of your treatments are easier on you.  It's strange how for me, my boosters at the end were easier and yours were at the first and harder.  All that matters though is that they kill any left over cancer cells.

Keep posting how you're doing and I wish you all the good luck that there is!
