Widowed by EC
My husband of 40 years died one month ago. I was told there are women like me at this site and on Facebook, but I can't find them.

Other widows - we are here, you are not alone in the journey
Hi,
I lost my husband to EC as well. Sorry we have to meet under these conditions. I have found comfort on the discussion boards. Sometimes friends are family are wonderful but it helps to talk with someone who is a widow.
here are three locations I use:
Cancercompass (bereavement, nice small group of women, all lost husbands to cancer (some specifically EC)
http://www.cancercompass.com/message-board/caregivers/bereavement/1,0,122,150.htm
This site , select discussion board, then select grief and bereavement
http://csn.cancer.org/forum/193
then a full site for widows (has general topics and widows from cancer)

I'm sorry
Hi Manda,
First let me say I'm so sorry to hear of your sorrow. Like many, your husband was much too young to leave this earth. There are a couple of groups on facebook which are spin-offs from this site. One is CSN Esophageal Cancer Group which I think is an open group and the other is a private group. I am part of the private group who've all lost their husbands to EC. I don't know how long you've been on this site but most of us "met" right here. Some more recent names from this site you may be familiar with in our group are TerryV, Judy Reed, Laura Chambers (wife of Jimbo), and MattieFields. Some of us have passed the 1 year mark of our husband's death and others are much newer, like you, to their grief. Because our group is private and we wish to keep it that way, you have to be "invited" to join. Once again, it's a group no one wants to qualify to join but we are so grateful to have each other. We vent, cry, laugh (YES, laugh), talk freely about our feelings and we care so much about each other - even though most have never actually met. Many have said this group is more affective than any grief counselor or grief group they've been to. We have all walked a similar road and we all truly "get it". If you or anyone who reads this and has been widowed by this horrible disease would like to join us, please send me an email on this site and give me your facebook name and I can take it from there. I believe there are 20 of us on that site and several of us are actually planning to meet in August - we're coming from all over the United States, Canada and one gal is even coming from Australia.
Most of us don't come to this site anymore (it's just too painful) but every now and then I take a peek to check up on some old "friends". Maybe it's people like you, Manda, that keep me coming back. Again, I'm so just so sorry.

Hi Shirley. We can certainly add you to the facebook group, but first you have to have a facebook account and if you do, we need your full name so we can add you. Hope to see you there. Patti

I would love to join your group on FB. I lost my husband in Feb at the age of 54 to Esophageal Cancer. To this day I have no idea how he got it. I have a 12 year old son and am now a widow. Crazy life. I am under Elise Papazian Pritikin.

Elise,
You will be receiving a "friend" request from Mary Ruble. Mary is the administrator of the widow's Facebook group. Once you accept the friend request she can add you to the group.
