thank you
I have not been a member of this board for long, but I wanted to stop in and thank you all for the thoughtful responses I rec'd to my posts. My mother (73 yo)was dx on Dec 2nd, had chemo on Dec. 13, and has been steadily declining since. She is too sick to recieve more chemo, and cat-scans showed her tumor grew, not regressed. My mother has a very rare type - carcinosarcoma - which is very, very hard treat, especially when she presented as late as she did. We have stopped TPN and hydration, and she is now on hospice. I found a beautiful small hospice home on Cape Cod which accpeted her today. It is beautiful, and peaceful, and I am so grateful that she will be going there. She is on a lot of pain and anti nausea meds via IV, as she cannot tolerate eating or drinking - just ice chips to moisten her mouth. They estimate she has about a week or two at most to live (but, I have a feeling she has alot less time than that). She has accepted her prognosis, and our hope is for her to go peacefully w/ family by her side. My heart goes out to all of you on this board - may God bless you all w/ health and happiness. I hesitated to share this bad news, because I didn't want to upset anybody - but just remember, I am (as of May 5 2013) a 20 year ovarian cancer survivor. And please keep in mind regarding my moms story - she was very very sick and extremely advanced when diagnosed, and she has the worst type to have.
Take Care everyone,
Carol

Carol,
i have been followingCarol,
i have been following your posts and have been concerned for how you are doing. I found out my mum has ovca at the end of November so I felt a little like we were going through similar things at a similar time. I had a feeling that your absence from the board of late may have been due to your moms illness but I had hoped it was not. So sorry to hear that she cannot accept anymore treatment and that she is as ill as she is. Sending you so much love and positive thoughts through this difficult time. take care of yourself. X

I was dx w/ a stage 1, grade 3, immature terratoma of the ovary. It was within a very large dermoid cyst. The doctor told me it was an ovarian cancer typically seen in young women, and that it was very cancer to male's testicular cancer. It is very treatable. I was very lucky. I had 3 months of adjuvent chemo, and have been fine since.
Thank you all for your kind replies. My mother passed on January 30th while in the hospice home. I am doing okay - it is my Dad I am worried for now. He just turned 80 yo last week - and he is having a very difficult time dealing w/ the lose of his wife. Life is just hard. But, I'm glad my mother is no longer suffering.

I am so very sorry about the passing of your beloved mother. I feel for your dad. Losing one's spouse is one of the hardest things many people go through in life. I hope though that all of the good memories help sustain your dad and you in the coming days and weeks, knowing that she is now at peace and no longer suffering. Please accept my deepest condolences.
Hugs,
Kelly
