Like you, I had a swift change of fortune. After haematuria following a golf game last year I assumed I might have cancer somewhere in my urinary tract; had a number of unkind all-clears from initial investigations before a CT revealed stage 4 grade 4. Had a nephrectomy last Dec., immediate recurrence, another op, declared N(V)ED then another immediate recurrence + additional mets, hoped for a third op but was told it's too late now and went from 'cured' to totally incurable in a matter of a few weeks.

    Still, bridges are there to be crossed when we come to them, aren't they? I'm off for a session of rowing before dinner but will doubtless talk to you again before long.

    Thanks everyone, I made it through the surgery:-) Had a little trouble with pain meds the first few days ( not enough) but we worked it out yesterday. Bubbs I am glad everything turned out ok. Thanks everyone, all the help, support and prayers have meant a lot.. Richard

    Glad it's turned out well and remember Gary's formula - water and walk. On second thoughts, with gary's quantities, you'd better run.

    Richard,

    The stuttering is just a short term side effect of the surgery though you seem to have a severe case, it will clear up. Seriously, its good to hear everything is going well, you should be feeling quite well by Thanksgiving and by X-Mas you will have started to forget all about it, until that first follow-up scan at least.

    Hi Bubbs,

    A little late to the party here, somehow I missed your post. Its good to hear that everything went as planned and you are on the road to recovery. Remember to walk as much as you can and drink plenty of water, both are very beneficial to the recovery/healing process. Keep us posted.

    Not going to say surgery complete :-)
    Must have been the drugs, or I was afraid no one was listening :-) I had a good run . I sure hope my message was received , and the stuttering goes away quickly... Someone should have warned me about the stuttering. Thanks everyone,

    10 days post surgery
    Doing much better, I have been getting around better than I thought. I took the advice and am drinking plenty of water and walking. The last three nights I have slept better than I had for the previous month. :-)
    Getting closer to adding some light weights to my walk, should get the pathology reports back next week.

    Yes Tex, they posted my report this week on my site. Right renal mass, partial nephrectomy.
    2.2cm largest dimension, clear celltype, Fuhrman Grade 1, confined to the kidney, margins clear, Adipose tissue, no tumor present.
    Tex compared to many here I am very blessed with this report, I do know that we are still dealing with a very sneaky little guy that seems to want to keep popping up.
    This site has helped me tremendously, I started walking and lifting with plenty of water daily 6 weeks prior to the operation (thanks to this site) to be able to recover faster.
    I have taking to this info and I am walking daily at least a mile, and I am drinking plenty of just plain old water. The surgery was just two weeks ago, but seems like a long time. I am getting better each day and am watching what I lift <10 pounds, the hardest part is not picking up my Grand daughter (1 year old this week and walking).

    Just the sort of report we wanted to hear. You will certainly be happy to drink that toast tonight. I live on the east coast of Scotland, a country many Yanks can trace themselves back to and are always welcome in (well, maybe Donald is an exception for some here!).
