Glad you checked in. Your story is amazing. I can't believe you want to even think of working. Have you considered applying for SS Disability? I got it quickly when I had first recurrence of UPSC. And others have too. Just a thought.
You deserve the best news in December. Until then please try not to worry - it's just wasted energy and increases stress which we don't need.
Go ahead and plan that trip with your son. Precious memories have no price tag.
Hugs to you. Mary Ann0 -
Thank goodness you are
Thank goodness you are back!! I've been looking for you since I knew you were going back for second ct. Sounds like you got it whipped this time! So glad you made it to Vegas and I know you will make it back again! I agree with Mary Ann...unless you really want to go back to work, take you ss disability and relax. Just think of all the new plans and trips your could take! Best, Debrajo0 -

Mary Ann,
Im a newbie, and I have grade 3 stage 3c UPSC. Ive had 6 chemos and starting radiation soon. Do most people wait until a recurrence to apply for ss disability? I am only 45 years old.0 -

I applied for SS Disability in -April 09 after I was diagnosed in Jan 09. Due to my diagnosis of UPSC stage 3 -C,
I was approved. They actually went back to 10/08 where I had my abnormal PAP that was highly suggestive of
Adenocarcinoma. You have to be disabled for 6 months, so I got my first check in May 09.
Two years after you are on disability you qualify for Medicare. Some people are given a determined amount of
Disability but due to my age (60) at the time and diagnosis I was not given a time limit of disability. Therefore I
Started on Medicare when I was 62.
I went to a lawyer who specializes in SS disability who only charges if you are approved. Others have just gone
To the Social Security office, and they have gotten approval. Good luck. In peace and caring.0 -
Pat glad to hear from you
I have been wondering how you have been doing. I am glad you have had positive results from the radiation. I have not heard of a chemo wafer that was placed on the brain. Did it just dissolve? You have been through so much. Glad you got to go to LV with your son. Hope you have many
More trips with him.
Enjoy each day. In peace and caring.0 -

Ro, do you think I would be approved since I "only work at home" i.e. housewife. I was 57 at diagnosis and am about to turn 61 in Dec Thanks, debrajo0 -

Sorry I do not know the answer to your question. You could call your Social Security office and ask. If you would qualify for SS at 65, I would guess you could get disability, but like I said I do not know. If you get an answer please post it. Others may want to know the answer. Good luck.0 -

I'd apply now rather than wait till recurrence. In my application, I attached an research article about UPSC and poor prognosis. I don't know what they will consider. It's worth a shot though.
Good luck. Mary Ann0
