I have my 4 tatts from radiation.
Will be getting a nipple tattoo one day. I bought temporary flowers and nipple tattoos to play around with to see if I wanted to get a flower tattoo instead of a nipple. It was fun, but I think I'll stick with a nipple. Never thought I'd get any! 2 of my sons have them, my daughter-in-law has them and the girlfriend of one of my sons have them. My radiation dots hurt and I couldn't imagine why anyone wanted one on purpose! Good thing they'll numb me for the nipple!

I don't have tattos. I just had the ones they mark your chest with before radiation. I don't count them because now I can't even find them.
Funny you say that...MY GNO (girls not out) friends want to get matching tattoos. (we go out monthly for dinner and shopping) I say NO way..ONLY tattoos which I still have are MY DOTS from 2008!

Maybe Just One
I have been thinking lately of getting a Tattoo right over my mastectomy scar in PINK letters that says,"Breast Cancer 2007". Mostly for the weird looks I get from adults when I go to the beach or the pool. Tattoos are mostly for young people to get. Temporary tattoos are the way to go because you can remove them when you get tired of it. Can't do that with real ones, unless you go through a lot more pain then when you had them put on. Although, each person IS differant when it comes to putting things on their own bodies.

I just have the 4 dots.....and that hurt! My husband will be getting the Raider shield if and when they win the superbowl......He said he'll incorporate the Raider shield with the Pink Ribbon....0 -
No tats
I don't have any other than my radiation ones - they hurt! I can't imagine getting big ones and I'm not a wimp either! The RO told me she can't understand people going thru more 'cause I joked with her that I was going to get a ship tattoo on my chest. Our younger son has one on his thigh that matches his wife's back one. It hurts me to see his precious body - the little boy I washed and took care of - all permanently marked up. Once it's done, it's done! No real do-overs. I'm glad I'm not the only one wondering.

I didn't even get those "just a small dot" for radiation therapy. I was having a really bad day that day. I'm already not to fond of the idea of getting a nipple tat and when they casually mentioned, in an off hand way just how much easier it would make their job...well, that's when I lost it and said take a good look, does it look like I care if it makes your job any easier?!!
I have since apologized. But they never brought it up again, which was ok by me.

I was a wild child, I got tattoos before they were popular. In fact when I got my most recent one, I asked the gal if she was older than my others. She was but only by a couple of years!
My most recent one is of a phoenix on my ankle. I call it my survivor stamp. I will post it on my expressions page when I am done here. My first tattoo is of a butterfly with a rose on my forearm. I got it in 1983 with my best friend. I thought about having it removed but after she died, I just couldn't. My second one is a Pegasus on my shoulder. Nothing special about it.
That will be all for the tattoos now. I would have stopped 30 years ago, but I had to get the phoenix this year.

when I read your response to the RO team. That's too funny. I know it wasn't funny at the time, but I can imagine saying that!
I went and had my 2nd accupuncture session ever after my radiation tattoos. NEVER AGAIN! I was so tired of needles by that time and I ended up having nerve damage. I said no more!0 -

Wait....radiation tattoos hurt? I am going to be getting radiation soon. Do I need to take a few Xanax before I go? I am a huge wimp when it comes to pain.

Everyone is different
Tonia,
Everyone is different in how they feel about the radiation tattoos and I imagine the pain probably varies depending on where they are placed. Some areas are more sensitive than others. I will tell you how mine went and the maybe others can chime in for you. For me they did a little mark about the size of a pencil dot and then then used some type of ink I suppose and then pricked the area. It was a sharp short pain much like a finger prick. By the time I registered the pain it was gone. But if taking a xanax keeps your anxiety down then take one. My tattoos were one under the arm, one between my breasts and two somewhere underneath. Like I said, I think that where they tattoo would result in more pain in more sensitive areas and how tolerate we are to pain. I have a high level of pain, at least as far as needles. My sister is needle phobic and had more pain when she had her tats done. Do what will make you comfortable.
As far as artistic tattoos I have one. A rather large tiger lily with a fairy sitting inside. I posted a picture of it a long time ago. I had it done after I had uterine cancer as my "I am done with cancer treatment" sign and as one of my few bucket list iems. I didn't know that there would several more cancers ahead but still happy I did it. My mom laughed when I told her that by the time I regretted it I probably wouldn't remember how it got there. We pictured me in a care home looking down at it and saying, Where the hell did that come from? It's on my left front just below my shoulder and extends to the just above my left breast. I had bilateral lumpectomies but cancer was found only in the right breast. Maybe I should have had a fairy guarding that breast too.
Hoping that all your tats go easily and that your radiation treatments go well for you. Prayers and good thoughts to you.0 -
Dont worry ladies - i have
Dont worry ladies - i have enough tattoos for all of us i got my first tattoo at 17 and had 9 (small-ish, but all professionally done) before diagnosis. I got a lotus flower on the inside of my wrist right before i started chemo, to serve as a visual reminder to stay calm. When i finished surgeries, treatments, and was feeling better, i got an anchor half sleeve tattoo as a gift to myself, and have a nearly complete full sleeve, including the top of my hand and "hope" across my knuckles. I've won awards for a couple of my designs It was MY way of taking back control of my body. I had a double mastectomy, complete hysterectomy - i think 7 surgeries in all in a year's time, and scars all over from them. I was 34 when diagnosed. I wanted to do something to make my body beautiful again. We all heal in our own ways, and this was mine.

I have 2, I got the first
I have 2, I got the first one when I was younger it is on my lower back, it's 2 angel wings and the word angel in the middle which is also my last name. And the other one is on my back right behind my mastectomy, it is the breast cancer ribbon with the words "I fought like a girl!" I will be posting a picture of it on my page later today.

My oldest wants to design (draw) or do tattooing some day. She back is covered, wrists small ones, neck etc.
I feel like oddity when I go any place-I am like the only one without one!
Denise
Question: I assume once breast sugery/ nodes can't have done on that arm. (like IV and bloor work)
NOT that I plan on getting one..just curious..0 -

I wanted to tattoo "no access" on my right arm in case of any emergencies. I had bilateral mastectomy so I figure the paramedics may get confused. I am just worried about the LE or getting an infection.......
Aside from that I promised my husband the phoenix was the last one!

I never liked tattoos, but, I think everyone has their own opinion on them and if they have them, that is fine. Some, like what the bc survivors have put on them, have a lot of meaning and from the ones that I have seen, are really beautiful and tasteful.0
