Our ONC has prescribed Tegafur URacil Oral tablet after 5 cycles of 5fu/Irinotecan combination is complete..
has any one has any idea or experience of possible sideeffects with Tegafur .
My pateint has been facing reduced urine output since she has been on this...
Wonder if it is a sideeffect of chemo or something else
She has been using aldactone for 2 weeks now as advised. not sure if use aldactone would introduce urine retention ?
Thanks for your response..

CKD
We've used a immunochemo plan with UFUR/UFT for over 2 years, containing 300 mg then 400 mg of tegafur per day. Click [tanstaafl] for more.
I would be surprised if it was the tegafur with everything else possibly going on, but we also use a number of supportive nutritional measures. I would be asking the doctor(s) to review treatments, historical lab data, kidney function, any (pre)diabetes, and cumulative damage from chemo, the steroid, live tumors, and disintegrating tumors over the past several months. Patients can accumulate a lot of damage before the damage becomes obvious, sometimes from a single event, that surfaces months later.
Kidney support related antioxidants that we have used include riboflavin (B2) and Life Extension's kidney disease article that includes pyridoxamine, CoQ10, silymarin, resveratrol, and lipoic acid.0 -
