Off topic....it's about my dog........

My MoJo has been steadily going downhill with Degenerative Myelopathy for the last few months, but in the last 3 weeks he's started falling, and he has to really think in order to negotiate two small steps to get up on our deck. Degenerative Myelopathy, for those who have never heard of it, is a disease where a dog loses control of their rear quarters, it's the doggie version of MS. It is painless, and if Moj was smaller (he's 130#) and more cooperative I'd actually think about getting him into a wheelchair. But he's a dog who has always marched to his own drummer, and a wheelchair would be a daily battle.

I'm having him put down this evening at 6:00...the Vet is coming to our house so he doesn't have to go thru all that fear of going to the Vet (he gets so scared, we have to muzzle him, and knock him out cold). This way he at least doesn't have to be dragged/walked into the Vet's office.

I'm very sad...this dog has been a full time care, special needs dog for the last 4 years....he has been velcro'd to my side due to all his ailments, so there will be a huge empty space next to me for a long while.

Thanks for listening... :(.

    I'm so sorry,,,
Phrannie....what can I say to make this easier, not a d---m thing. I too had to put my beautiful German Shepard down a while back. Our Chasie was having similar issues..I just couldn't see her go through it anymore. (alot of pain for her, and her kidneys went) I am thinking of you...and knowing how much you loved your pet through your words. Sending you a gigantic hug and please know you do things out of necessity and love. Katie

I am so sorry Phrannie, I know how attached I am to my animals and it does leave such a hole in your heart when you lose one. And what a horrible time to have to do this. I am sending hugs your way and will be praying for you.

    MOJO....R.I.P. Pain Free
So very sorry you have to go through this pain.....

We lost our black lab, Ebony....my girl a few years ago now. It wasn't puch difference in the pain and punch in the gut that I had when I found out I had cancer.

She is still in our hearts and thoughts daily....gone but never forgotten.

She set the standard for the two choclate lab sisters we have now... They can't get away with anything. Ebony taught us every trick in the book on how a lab can get over on you.

    She was the best ever...I still love and miss her;

    Ebony

It's something you must do I know, you could never see your boy suffer, but it's a very hard loss for a long time.

Know he will be there for you eventually, both young and pain free....

    Thoughts and Prayers for you....

    We are so sorry
Diane and I had to put our Toby (Shelter Dog we adopted) kind a shepard mix for a quick description, we had him for 3 years before he passed, Diane also just lost her cat Emily a few months back, she had her from a Kitten 17 years. Just something about losing a pet, they I believe are next to God in offering unconditional love to all of us.

    Dogs In Heaven
Mojo's running pain free. Hope he meets up with my rat terrorist Tater and my Jack Russell Spud. They are little but they don't know it -- they like to run with the big dogs!

Just another tough thing to throw at you right now. Prayers for you and Greg -- and Mojo.

    We said our final goodbye
at 7:15 this evening...he is free now to to do all the things he loved to do but has been unable to do for 4 years....play, run, jump, chase cats, swim....and dig up all the heavenly knapweed he can get his paws on. I will miss this boy...so full of himself, so sure of himself...

Thanks everyone for letting me post this part of my personal life here....what a wonderful thing to know I'm surrounded by folks who's animals carry this much importance in their lives, also.

My life has been cancer this, cancer that, morning, noon and night for months....but in real life, my life is dogs and horses morning, noon and night....they are my passion..

    Know how you feel
    Phrannie:

So sorry to hear about your dog. I know how it is. I had to put down both Shelties in the last year. Blue in March of 2011 and Rowdy this past April. It is so hard. Will be thinking of you. Am taking the lady that took of my brother to see my nephew today in Chatt. and Chargee (the 4 1/2 month old sheltie puppy) is going with us. We'll be gone about 12 hours and I just couldn't leave him for that long! Will report back. He's a good traveler and they allow you to bring pets in at the nursing home/rehab where Brian is!

    Rainbow Bridge
    Phrannie,

It is so very hard to put down a beloved pet. I am so sorry you are going through this along with your illness.

This subject is hard for me to deal with because we put down our little Welsh Corgi named MandyBear just six weeks ago and both my wife and I are still grieving. I had her picture as my avatar when I first joined up here so most everyone saw her.

Let them all play at the Rainbow Bridge until we come to get them.
