Just wanted to add a few helpful tips:
take pain medication when necessary.
Multiple pillows in various, sizes help with sleeping on your back. Some fellow
bilateral Sisters in PINK, opted to sleep on a recylinder during recovery.
Make sure you know what to milk - those 'drains'.
Please have cups, saucers, plates at arm level - as well as re-arranging your fridge for more commonly used items at arm levels. Tide/Downy small container sizes - also at arm level. Reaching up and grabbing heavy items -- will tear your stitches, as well as hurt your arms. Muscles and tissue in breast, as well as arm areas will be cut, moved and sewn back together.
I tried to take a bath ..but hence could not pull myself out of the our spa tub, no muscles or strength in my arms after bilateral mastectomy.. I am not one to who likes
a sponge bath, to say the least. So I opted to shower ...My husband removed our shower head, and replaced it with a flex hose type so I could shower maneuvering the flex hose from waist down, as well as place shower water under my arms.
Lastly, please make sure you do your exercises as prescribed by Plastic Surgeon, and Physical Therapist.
Strength, Courage, Hope and Speedy recovery.

Praying your surgery was successful and that you are resting comfortably by now. Post an update when you are feeling like it.

Surgery went well
Thank you all for all of the positive energy and thoughts! Surgery went well! No sign of cancer in the lymphnodes and I was home 36 hours later. The drains are giving me a little problem, leak alot at night..but my pain is at a minimal! I am so relieved to have this over with and soooo thankful to have all of you to share it with!
(((Hugs))) to all of you.

That is fantastic news!!
Glad you were able to make it home so fast. Drains are a pain. My wife is on her second week and ready to pull them out herself.
Sit back and rest; and as always, keep us posted.

Thanks Tony! Hugs to your wife! Are you your wife's soul caretaker? My husband is here and my sister comes to stay during the day but hubby is chsnging bandages and helping me with everything. Can I ask how you feel? I was mixed about him doing so much for me. How did you feel seeing the scar for the first time? He says he is fine and wants to take care of me. Thanks for the husband perspective in advance!

I am doing pretty well 10 days out. No cancer in the lymphnodes tested. 2 drains gone, stitches out. Still tired, still having leg swelling, but overall I feel good! Anxious about pathology report, hope we hear some good news from that soon. I appreciate all the positive thoughts and prayers so much!! I am so happy to have this group. Unless you have gone through it or are going through it, you can not know how it feels. Hugs out to all of you!0 -

Hi Salls41, good to hear all went well with your surgery. I had a bilateral mastectomy on June 4, 2012. Isn't it nice to have those drains out?!! Good luck with your pathology report. Praying for your continual good recovery.0 -
