Pit Bull Sick

I am going crazy in here because my Son told me that my little darling PitBull was having problems at home falling down and running into the walls. My son took her to the doctor and they can’t find anything wrong except old age and maybe some kind of infection. I ask the hospital if I could bring her in here to see me but when I said Pit Bull that was the end of that. People just don’t understand how loving a Pit Bull can be, it is all in the way you raise a dog, you love them and they will show love back to you. It’s the same with children, I need to get out of here and soon but don’t want to go before the infection is gone so it don’t come back again.

Just need to vent I guess

    Oh Hondo, I'm so sorry....
your pup is having problems, and they won't let her into the hospital because of her breed....that is just stupid. I have been around 100's of Pits in my life, and only one was what I considered bold....not vicious, but bold enough to cause some fear in strangers...but his owner had him trained to a tee...

You don't say how old she is, but there are meds that help with old age confusion...the getting lost in their own house, the wall bumping, etc. She must have been running a fever if the Vet is thinking she might have some kind of infection...did they give her antibiotics?

I just know how helpless you feel to give your old pup a boost, when you're stuck in the hospital and can't get out! Did you tell them that this is an old dog? Or did they just hear Pitbull and say no way? Is there a way you could go out front of the hospital and spend a little time with her? Dog ignorant people just frustrate me to no end.

    hope pup gets better soon
Hi Hondo, sorry about your pup --hope she gets better quick. You already have enough on your plate to worry about yourself getting better. I like the idea of sneaking out front or in the parking lot maybe so you can see her. Hang in there and hopefully you will be going home soon.

    Harley
I asked the people again and they are going to look the other way so I can see Harley. She was there for me through all my treatments, sometimes she would lay down next to me for hours until I start feeling better. Then she would get up and start acting like a dog but while she was next to me it was like she was taking care of me, hard to explain.

Anyway I will feel much better seeing her, The little things like this mean a lot

    Thanks everyone

I know exactly how you feel
my parents gifted me with a springer spaniel pup when I was going through rads in 1998. He is now 14 years old--- ancient for the breed. Deaf, blind and weak, he falls down and runs into things all the time. Yet he made it through my second rads this winter. I lovr him to Pieces.

    I know exactly what you
I know exactly what you mean, Hondo. My golden retriever was by my side during treatment also. He seemed to know what days I was feeling worse than others and would sit at the side of my bed until I told him he could jump up and join me....when I was doing better he seemed to know and then would just come a running and jump up on the bed without an invite. Dogs are very special. Hope you get to see your girl soon.

So sorry Hondo, I know how
So sorry Hondo, I know how you feel, especially since she is older. We just went through a time with our poodle when he had apncrititis. So Happy they are letting you visit with her. Probably will help her too. Did they check her ears? We had a cat once who did the same things and it was an ear problem.

Praying for you both to recover fully and quickly.

    Evil woman
Hondo, hope you get to see your dog soon. My own Pit, pictured in my avatar, is quite the opposite dog. At the very height of my worse days of chemo and radiation the dog attempted to assert herself as, "Alpha dog" by trying to displace me from the couch as I was hooked up to my feeding tube. The evil animal challenged me and growled feigning biting to gain dominance. She did not unseat me from the couch but I was also unable to unseat her in my weakened state. I respect her as being, "all dog" and at least trying to take control. today, I'm back on top for the moment. Got to love a Pit!

    Hi Hondo,
    So sorry to here

    Hi Hondo,

So sorry to here your Pit Bull is having trouble getting around. The fact the vet could find nothing wrong is a good sign. The dog is probably going nuts without you around. Their attachment to humans can be incredible. I am glad to hear that they may look the other way for you to visit Harley. I thought, maybe we could come up with a disguise for the pup (if needed).

    Speedy recovery all around,

    Matt & Candy

    I have pit bulls, Hondo
    Best dogs in the world.

Running into walls and falling down - sounds like inner-ear to me. Hope the vet is treating that possibility.

We've had a scare with one of our pits recently but I think we're back on track with some good antibiotics.

Will hold good thoughts and say a prayer for your sweet dog.

    Sorry to hear
They are a part of the family. So glad your son is around to get him to the vet. Hopefully he is just missing Dad. We are currently Assisted Living for my daughter's cat! She is having a high risk pregnancy and we didn't think that she needed to deal with the old, diabetic cat. We've learned how to give shots and the cat has settled into retirement living with my husband. When you get better I will have to share a story about our Old Dan, people never think that it is a real story.

How horrible to think that you don't know what to do for her right now. Hope docs get her sorted soon, so you two can enjoy each other when you get home.

    She came to see me
I could not believe it but the hospital let my Pit bull come in to see me, something about it helps people to heal faster. Oh I was so glad to see her and see she was doing a lot better. She was there for me through all my treatments just like a mother, when I hurt she would lay down by my side and keeps me warm. What a blessing God gave to us, whether it is a dog or cat or whatever, animal we are all blessed because of them.

Love my Pitt, a dog will treat you back the way you treat them, you show them love and they will show you love.

    Thanks everyone

    Happy!
I bet she was as happy to see you as you were to see her. I am glad she is doing better. Your last statement is very true. When you love them they will love you back. I was not feeling well over the weekend and my yellow tabbly cruled up around my head. Did the coolest thing in the world considering how hot it was, but it sure made me feel better.

    Hugs to you,

    Kathy
