back with a vengance

My husband had a good 5 months without pain and very little side effects from the chemo, but now it looks like we are back at square 1. The past few nights have been so bad. I feel horrible because it hurts me to see him in so much pain. The pain meds help but its that in between time. Appetite is almost gone, that has become a struggle as well as getting him to drink. I cannot believe how you can go from one extreme to the other in a matter of a few hours. He says he doesn't understand why the pain is back but he realizes its not going away this time. I honestly don't know how I am going to manage thru this. Taking care of him, keeping my kids from losing it and work full time. We go to the doctors today and I am praying for somekind of help.

    where your husband is
Remind me of where he is in his fight, Cpnqueen.

I hope the doctor was able to offer some pain relief and some answers, too.

    Waiting to hear.

    fight
My husband was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer that spread to his bones/lymph nodes on October 10, 2011. They were just about to change up his chemo because after several rounds they had to stop one of the drugs he was getting and we felt it wasn't working without it.
Anyway he was just admitted last night for dehydration and uncontrolled pain. We are hoping to get him settled again so we can try chemo again. He responded so well the first time we are praying we get a second chance at it and that it will respond well again. I am really at my wits end.. Not sure how I am going to get thru this..

    this hospital stay
Will help more than you can imagine. Getting him hydrated is essential before the chemo and I'm sure you already know that.

Try to get some rest for yourself - are you staying at the hospital or going home?

Let us know how things go.

    dehydration
Hello I know all about dehydration. I am the caregiver of my father and after one time of taking him to the hospital for dehydration I am now known as the gatorade nazi. I am constantly forcing fluids on him. I know it is worth it when the doctors and even he appreciates it. My Dad is going through chemo for the 3rd time and I have learned that each treatment is differnt. Hang in there. There are always new things happening. For me I thought things were at the end but then Dana Farber decided to try desentization for my father with the drug that he is allergic too and it is working. I am so grateful. I trust you will get through this just as I will get through dealing with my Dad. Others have gone before us and there will be others after us. Hang in there. I will say a prayer for you and feel free to email me maybe we can help each other. I have learned to try and take things one day at a time :)

They released him today and I think he finally understands he has to drink or he will end up back in. We are also starting to use the fentenal patch so hopefully that will help. I am very happy to know we have another chance with a different combination of drugs. Hopefully he will respond well like the first time. It is nice to be able to vent and get support!

    Hi CpnQueen,

How is your husband doing? How are you doing? My husband was diagnosed with Stomach cancer 2 months ago that has spread to liver and pancreas. We finished 3rd round of chemo this week and are dealing w. side effects now. I've had to being him to the hospital for fluids a number of times I know how frustrating this experience is. It is so important for them to be hydrated and when the feel like crap they don;t want to drink or eat or do anything.
    .
I hope things are better for you and your husband. Stay strong you are not alone.

Hi, I think we may be on an upswing again.. New chemo combination had him sick for days but last night started to turn around and lucky for us this is an off week so maybe we will be lucky. It really has been hard, he is down another 17 lbs so i keep trying to get food in him.

Thank you for checking in! I hope you and your husband are also doing well right now!
