Hurthle Cell Back Again

My original diagnosis of hurthle cell carcinoma was in Sept. '06. I had a TT. My TG levels have never gone up. I had 3 tumors in my neck that were removed in 2010. RAI was not affective and I had 6 weeks of EBR. Now I have another recurrance under my clavical/sternum and a 2cm mass in my lungs. I am currently being treated at Mayo clinic in Jacksonville. I had a CT scan today and am waitiing to hear if the surgeon feels he can "get" it. I feel I have a great team of doctors, but would love to hear from someone who has gone through this.

Has anyone had a similar occurance? If so what was your treatment like?

    Hi Alice P,

    I was DX with Hurthle Cell Carcinoma in Dec 2010. Still undergoing treatment myself, I have a question for you if it’s not too much trouble. I and another Hurthle Cell Carcinoma patient here on the boards are from Jacksonville. Did you grow up here? We both see Dr. Sultan at North FL Endocrine. He is interested in tracking Hurthle Cell Carcinoma, and other rare thyroid cancers that seem to be popping up here in this area. I hope you are able to find answers from others that have had reoccurrence after RAI and EBR. I am not quite a year out from surgery. I had two surgeries and 150 mci's of RAI, so far so good. If I can be of any assistance to you please let me know. Best of luck in your ThyCa journey....
