CA 125 up after surgeries

I had two surgeries in three weeks time. First they removed the ovaries and tumor...thought it was benign....long story short..it ended up crossing the line from borderline to malignant. Needed to get full hysterectomy, took omentum, tested lymph nodes, fluid, etc. All came back negative. Doc said no Chemo needed. Had a follow up Tuesday and today my ca 125 was up from 21 to 59. Nurse tells me that is expected after belly surgery....and I had two in a short time. Please, please tell me that this is common. My doctor never called me back and I am a bit leery of his nurse.

can be altered by many factors including infection or trauma. Ask for a repeat test maybe. I hope you are cancer free and don't need chemo. God bless..al

YES, LOTS OF REASONS FOR THE RISE
And my doctor also told me surgery is definitely one of them. So, relax, give it time. I'm sure they'll follow up with blood work from time to time. You'll surely see those numbers come down!

    Rising CA-125
This happened to me too. Unfortunately it continued to rise for 2+ years from 39 to 99. Had one ovary out at first and then 2 years later the last ovary and uterus (all benign). We waited a good 6 mos to retest and boy was it nerve wracking ( I'm a 3X cancer survivor). I was retested and it has been 19 for a year now. Just banking that I have a normal, high normal baseline. My docs always said an inflamation in the body could cause this number to rise, surgery being one of the reasons for inflamation. All the best to you!

Do most of your docs follow this marker and only go with symptoms prior to having any scans done?

Yes agree inflammation and or infection (such as colds, etc) can cause this to rise as well.
