Merry Christmas to ME

I am very excited.... I went to have my labs done today, meet with my oncologist and have my treatment. To be honest, I have been a little in a snit over having it today and the Nulasta shot in the morning( they aren't working Sat. had to move the shot back a day. I don't like change) anyway, when Dr. G came thru the door she was grinning from ear to ear. She announced right off the bat that my tumor count was back in normal range of less than 5. We both started laughing and me crying. What a Christmas present. In that moment, it hit me that for this, spending Christmas Eve and Christmas day in bed with bone pain is a small price to pay for the gift of a stable disease. I'm going to have a great weekend watching movies on Netflix and enjoying the fireplace, and visiting friends by phone. Every one have a Blessed Holiday weekend. Sam Stage IV

And a very Merry Christmas to you from us!
And a question--Which tumor count test does your doc use?
Congratulations on the good report of stability!

    Wonderful News
    Sam,

That is great news. It is a great way to start a new year!!! I hope the results continue to be positive and the side effects of the treatment are less than you expect.

    Tumor Test
Angie, they use the CEA, its the same test Mayo uses with a different range. Mayo normal for non smokers is <2.5 and they use <5.0 for smokers. UVA uses <5.0 for everyone. Of course UVA has a lot of "train wrecks" as patients so they may never get any of us <2.5. The best I have gotten to is 2.8. If there is another sub category for this test I don't know what it is. Also my Mayo info is about a year old so they may have changed their norms, but I doubt it. When I had my first CEA it was 500. Have a Joyous Holiday weekend. Sam

    great Christmas gift
    Hi Sam,
What great terrific news for you!!! So glad to hear this. I probably have told you this before but the nurses at my cancer center had me take Clariten the day before, day of and day after the Neupogen shot which is like the Nulasta and it really cut down on that bone pain which is excruciating to say the least also oxycodone helped too. Hope your Christmas continues to be blessed. Boy don't we love hearing an oncologist is smiling ear to ear!! take care, Christmas hugs to you.
