Radiation induced lumbarsacral plexopathy

Looking for someone out there that has have pelvic radiation and years later was diagnosed with Lumbarsacral plexopathy. It is from having radiation to the pelvic area. Your legs start to become weak and you slow are unable to function. A doctor from Baylor has diagnosed me only after I went to MD Anderson who indicated they had not seen any patients with this problem. The doctor said there is no treatment, no cure. I can't even wrap my head around this. I am a nurse and understand well the nervous system. I am search from some ideas . My Radiologist from 2005 who gave me the radiation suggested Trental.
Thank you , Colleen

    Hi Colleen
I had radiation to both hips and up the tailpipe back in '04....they actually went up the lower part of my back as well.....I don't move or walk as well sometimes.

I've got a degenerative spine condition - could be from age or weight or just wear and tear. And the rads could be a part.

I also had radiation on my lung, but that is different than what you are asking.

I hope there is someone here who can help.....as I can think, I don't too many cases like that on the board....if there is, someone will see this and hopefully can shed more light on it.

Cancer is hard enough - but as I get further out (7.5) years, I'm discovering that the side effects from cancer and trying to live with and manage those, are every bit as tough as the disease itself.

If you get up North Texas way, you can try UTSW hospitals, NCI cancer center, and top rated radiation center.

I'm sorry you are having to deal with this...I often wonder if I continue to live long enough to age, what will the the next challenges that I will have to contend with?
