Good for you!
Have you tried the gum or the patch? I know many used those and quit. Have you talked to your doctor? I am sure that between him and you, you will come up with something that might help quitting.
I had a girlfriend that kept carrots always on hand, tootsie roll pops, anything that she could eat or just put in her mouth to prolong her lighting a cigarette. And, when she wanted to smoke, she would just put it off for maybe 15 minutes or so longer, and eventually, she was not smoking for hours in between.
I know it is difficult to quit, and, I am so proud of you for trying. I am sending you lots and lots of will power!

To substitute the need to
To substitute the need to have the cig in their mouths, my mom and aunt cut up small straws and used them as substitute them as cigs. It helped them deal with the process of quitting.
My mom also used Chantax and chewed a lot of gum.0 -

Good for you!!!sylvan said:Vitamin C
Get the ones you can suck on/chew. The sour ones. They help a lot when you feel like you need a smoke. With the added benefit that you'll get your daily dose of vitamin C.
Chewing gum does help and they're so many different flavors out now. You can do it!

You Can
I quit over a year ago when I was first diagnosed with BC. I just laid them down but one thing I was told was to drink lots of water. It helps flush out the nicotine and stuff quicker. Just find something else to do in place of smoking, gum, sugar-free candy, drugs, etc. I hope this helps.

Good for you to make that decision.I want more than anything for my husband to quit.He tried probably 6 times but it never worked.Sometimes I wondered if he was smoking behind my back but just did it less.Today though he got a letter in the mail from the VA.He has a lung problem and he needs to make a appt and to have some tests.
I never smoked but there are things I would have a very hard time stopping. Drinking caffeine free coke or pepsi.
I wish you the best.If like anything else going cold turkey be careful.I went off Caffeine(coke) cold turkey and I had palipations.I never thought that would happen.I just quit drinking caffeine coke and my heart was racing. I had to call my heart doctor. He thought I might be having some other episode and ran tests. But 6 months later I realized it was going off caffeine cold turkey.I am sure cigarettes could be the same way.You possibly could have withdrawal symptons.
It is best but just take it slow. You will feel better. My husband is short of breath alot and I know if he quit it would make a big difference.
Keep us posted on how you're doing.

Not sure if they are ok with chemo or what ever. I quit 14 years ago. I was eating carrots, rice cakes and what ever to not smoke. Finally I started eating sunflower seeds. It gives you something to do with your hands too and they are a natural anti depressant!
Good luck! It is well worth it.

Quitting
I stopped smoking in 1999. I used a website. Quitnet.org I'm not sure if it still viable, but it helped alot.
I made cig soup...gross. I put ashes in a jar with water and buts. When I wanted a smoke I'd look at that or take a whiff. I also once ate a clove of garlic. Just don't smoke one. I quit cold turkey. Before that I had tried patches and gum. I smoked 2 packs a day. I'm grateful I don't smoke today. I know it is a challenge to stop smoking. I planned my quit date too.
Good luck to you! remember just one reignites the cravings.0 -

Yes I was a grump for awhile. My son escaped to grandmas.
I read somewhere also that when I was really craving to take deep breaths. The reason was that as smokers sometimes the only time we took deep breaths was to inhale. It seemed to help. If you want to email me you can. Having the BB to vent on and to talk to others it really helped me. I used a quit clock to see the time and $$$ I saved. Set a goal for what you will do with the money you save.0
