in Ovarian Cancer #1
I found out the results of my biopsy - it is breast cancer. Still numb. Can't figure out how that can be when I tested negative for the BRAC 1 & 2 and have been on Avastin for 15 mos. Will know more tomorrow after I meet with the surgeon

    I am so sorry that you got that result. I do hope they caught it in early stages and all goes well with your treatment. Sure not fair but at least they found it and now they can get rid of it. Stay strong and know that you are in our prayers. Hugs!

    Taiga, please join us on the breast cancer board. I'm so sorry to hear your news. I'm only over here because I've been following Linda's last posts.

    I do want to comment, tho, that I was diagnosed (4 days apart) with both endometrial and breast cancers. I am not BRACA positive, either. It happens. The risk factors are the same.

    Wishing you the best. The women on the breast cancer board are phenomenal. Several of us have had breast cancer and another gynecological cancer (I think I'm the only one who was dx'd at the same time, tho). When I first saw my oncologist (after my hysterectomy) to start treatments for breast cancer, she said "now I don't have to worry about you getting ovarian cancer". As if having one isn't enough.

    I am so sorry!

    BRCA1 and 2 are known risk factors, but there are definitely other genes that we do not yet know about that also predispose to various cancers. My genetic counselor was sure I was BRCA positive because of my family history, but I was tested, and I am not. There is a current study that I was asked to participate in (meaning spit quite a lot into a test tube), which is searching for other genes that may increase risk or even lower it. I'm pretty sure that I have an as yet undiscovered cancer gene.

    Met with the breast surgeon
    He feels 99% sure it is lobular cancer and hormone driven. Lobular doesn't respond to chemo which explains why it is there depsite my chemo last year and a year's worth of Avastin. Since I've been on Avastin, no surgery for 6-8 weeks, at least. In the meantime, will be put on a hormone blocker, hopefully will shrink the tumor (a little over 2cm). I'm having a MRI today on both breasts to see exactly how large the tumor is in the right breast and also make sure nothing is going on in the left breast. Lobular tends to have "fingers" that branch out. At this time, due to the size, location and type, a lumpectomy doesn't look like it will probably be an option, but we'll see in a couple months.

    The other issue is that lobular is one of the few breast cancers that spread to the abdominal cavity (not what I wanted to hear) or the bones. I have had lots of problems with neck and back pain since the beginning of the year and have attributed all that to the Avastin. So I am getting PET/CT on Wednesday to check me out from head to toe. I'll keep you posted and ask that you keep my family in your prayers. You ALL are in mine - I love this board!

    this really does suck
    I'll be thinking of you and hoping they can come up with a good game plan for you. Don't you just hate waiting for a test, waiting for results and then waiting to hear what your options are. Seems like at times thats all I do. I will definely be praying for you and your family. Kathy
