Hi Everyone,

Pittsburgh gave the a okay on Monday, Dr. Luketich will be doing the MIE on dad on Friday. I'm nervous, scared and not sure what else.

We have about a 8 hour drive, check in and spend the day at Dr. Luketich office on Thursday.

The nurse will give your dad something to help him relax and the next thing he will see is your smiling face as he is barely waking up after the surgery is completed. You will be the one that is worried and nervous. He will not remember a thing. You will be watching the waiting room door for the surgeon to walk in and not knowing what he will say. The news will be good. Your dad looks like a tough guy in the picture. He will be fine.

    Thank you everyone!
    Hi Everyone,

We have been at the hospital since 5am, surgery started at 6:45am (It's 9:18 here in Pittsburgh).

Of course, the butterflies are in the stomach, dad (actually no one did) didn't sleep much last night. They told us surgery is approximately 2 1/2 on the bottom and 2 1/2 on the top and that doesn't include move the patient around and prep work. So, we should have some update around 2-3 pm. Probably will see him around 5pm.

Staying at the Shadyside Family house, everyone is wonderful here. Such compassion in everyone, a great environment to be at.

Thanks all for the wonderful prayers! We truely appreciate it.

    Good luck hopefully you are
Good luck hopefully you are all resting easier now and your dad is out of surgery. We stayed at the Shadyside Family House and the volunteers are wonderful and the other patients and their families so helpful. It really did become a home away from home.

    Best,

    Chemo/Rads and then an Operation?
    Hello Loretta and William,
I hope you don't mind me asking, but I have been searching the boards for people with a lot of knowledge about EC.
We are in Gran Canaria and my hubby has been diagnosed with EC. An 8cm tumour that is growing the length of his esoph. it is a tube shape and does not give him a problem when he eats. Just a little soreness if he eats the wrong things.
The surgeon told us that after his scan, he would do chemo and then an op. The do not di MIE here.
We saw the Onco on Thursday and he said he was going to do chemo a five day continuous cycle of Cisplatin. Then chemo/rads before the op.
We have been waiting for this to start.
However a cancer nurse that I know in the UK has told me that you cannot have surgery after radiation.
On the basis if this, I booked flights home on Monday and now I find that two people have answered my post and said that it isn't so.
I will go hope and get a second opinion now that the flights are booked, but I wondered if you could answer the question. Is it possible to have EC surgery after chemo/rads.
Thanks so much for reading this.

    Bless you!

Radiation & Chemo / 1 month off / then Surgery
That's how it's done here in the States for the Stage III patients. Please view my User Profile for more information about my husband's medical journey through EC.

My boss' father was a Stage II patient. He had radiation then Ivor Lewis surgery. He is a 15+ year survivor.

Sounds like you need a 2nd and perhaps 3rd opinion....

Today is his 1 month anniversary of Surgery and he's doing FINE :)

Good luck to you both, Marci!

    Hi Terry,
Yes I think you are right. Well I have booked flights for Monday back to the UK and hope it isn't too much of a delay before we can get a second opinion.
Bless you for answering so quickly, it is much appreciated.
