pain
Can't even imagine what your going through. So so sorry. Dear god there must be something they can do to better manage this for you. I don't have any advice but I really will be thinking and praying something can be done as soon as possible. Kathy0 -
Addictive drugs
Anne,
Most of these pain medications you are taking are addictive. They can be really difficult to wean off of and you may need some other meds to help with this. Sometimes, the body thinks it is in pain when you are dicontinuing these drugs, when, in fact, it is not. I was on a lot of pain meds throughout treatment. I don't know exactly what was causing the pain, but I think it was related to the surgery. I slowly weaned myself off of the medications one at a time after I was done with chemo. I didn't have the problem of phantom pain, but I did feel like I had the flu for a week or so with each medication I discontinued. I was told, after the fact, that they can prescribe something to help with the withdrawls.0 -

Have they confirmed exactly what the pain is from? Sorry if I missed that in your post. I'll pray for you, Anne. Try to hang in there. Hopefully, the doc will find a better combination for you to make day-to-day life more bearable.

You have a lot to deal with. Fibromyalgia and migraines are more than enough to deal with without adding ov/ca and chemo. Please remember to be assertive with your doctors. Only you know how you really feel.

Dear Anne
It sounds like you are going to have to find a pain management doctor--someone who specializes in pain control. You need a referral from your family doctor for the pain specialist.
There are lots of other options besides narcotics that could be used to bring you relief--acupuncture come to mind.
Best wishes,

Dear Anne
I'm so very sorry that you are having to endure this. My sister-in-law recently had a very major, life threatening back surgery and your pain level sounds familiar. She's tough also, but the pain was so scary that she would become extremely anxious that her pain level would rise. Her pain doctor has been able to get it under control and I'm hoping the right combo will be found to give you relief.

A pain management Dr should be able to control your pain it will be okay soon. No one should have to suffer in this day and age. Make sure you let them know what is going on so they can adjust the meds I would stick with the pain management Dr as most other physicians are not trained to deal with this type of pain. Also if you need immediate care after hours you can go to the emergency room. I hope you feel better soon.

pain
I am travelling this week to the funeral of my dear friend who died after 5 years of fighting Stage 4 lung cancer. She was never free of tumors or the pain. She also worried about addiction and her doc told her that was only a word and if he could make her remaining time comfortable, quit worrying about it. When she had brain surgery, I was surprised they supplemented her morphine with a dilaudin, a very inexpensive pain killer that has been around since the civil war. So make them try to look at various choices as it is so hard to fight the good fight and deal with mental and psychological issues if the pain is overwhelming. Good luck.0 -
I am hoping that your pain
I am hoping that your pain is getting better. I can only understand a fraction of the pain you must be feeling. I have been waking up in extreme pain from arthritis. It sucks so much. I had my doctor refill my pain meds and now i have to see a primary care doctor just so he can refer to a Rheumatologist. Where I will probrally have to go on more medicine. So annoying. When I was in the hospital the doctor put me on diluadin. It is cheaper and it is actually stronger than morphine she said. It knocked me the hell out. Maybe they can have you try it and see if it works to control your pain. You probrally have a high pain tolerance now that you could actually take it and function. I hope for the best for you.0 -

I can't imagine having to take that much pain medicine. What is your pain caused by, if I might ask? I sure hope you can get it under control. I certainly have no advice, but 'am sure thinking of you and 'hope you get some relief. Ginny
I already had migriane and fibromyalgo so I was on ibupofin 1800 mg a day and 200mgs a day of tramadol. The chemo taxol (and I just found out the advastin also) causes bone pain. So my ONC sent me to a pain doctor who put me on 90mgs a day of the morphine and 10-20mgs of oxycodone for brake through pain. What I did not realize was how much the tramadol was really helpping me because when he started loworing the dose of tramadol the pain increased and by the time I was on my last one it was unbareable.0 -

I have started winnie my self of the codone I am down to 20 ever 4-6 hours and I am doing better by the time I see my pain doctor on Wed. I hope to be off the oxycodone completely I did understand some of it was from the withdrawl but that night I was out of my mind in pain I am doing much better now and today trying to get off the codone.0 -

I am feeling much better since my onc told me to take 60 mg three times a day and 40mg every four hours until I get in to see my pain specialest. I am schedule with him on October 3 instead of October 20th I started takeing 60mg thee times a day of the morphine and 40mg of oxycodone ever four hours. Today I started pulling myself off the oxycodone I take only 20mg every 4-6 hours and will only increase it to 40mgs if I am starting to feel more pain before it is time for the morphine. For right now I feel so much better than I had the days before. I just had my fifth chemo treatment yesturday and to cut down today on the oxycodone right after the chemo is great. thank you all for your prays and advise I know that is what is making me fell so much better keep the prayers coming I love all my teal sisters.
