just need to cry on my teal sisters shoulder

I finally got in the see the pain doctor to see if we can get the bone pain under control. I had been on 15gm of morphine three times a day with 5-10 mg of oxycodone every four hours as needed for pain as a break through medication. I was already on tramadol 200 mgs a day and 1800 mg of iburporfin a day. When I met with my pain doctor he moved my iburporfin th 600 mg as needed for inflamation, 30 mg of morphine three times a day, and 20mg of oxycodon PRN for break through pain. I took the tramadol and iburporfin for my fibromyalga and migrianes. He did not want me on two time release pain medication so he is winging me off the tramadol. I was taking 200mg a day so instead of 4 tabs a day for the first 5 days I am to take 2 a day. Taking the two a day cause a little more pain but I could handle it. The last five days I was to take one tab a day which is 50mg, so in 10 days I went from 200mg to nothing. Like I said the first 5 days the pain did increase a little but I could handle it. The last five days have been hard which I am on day four now. Three days ago the pain was really bad in the AM but I got around, day two seemed like in the AM when I got up and then later in the PM I was having a little hard time finding a way to sit that did not hurt, day three my pain lasted most of the day and it seemed like I was taking the oxycodone every four hours. Day four which was yesturday I had trouble getting out of my chair just hurt to much to stand up but I did. I walked a round a little losen up my joints. I was taking my oxcodone every four hours like clock work and then my morphine at 9am, 3pm, and 9pm I had set an alarm to wake me if I was asleep. Oh and sleep I have not slept more that three hours in the past four days because I am in so much pain. At 1am this morning I finally had it with the pain I was laying on the couch where my mom was sitting playing on my laptop and started crying because the pain was so bad and I don't cry. my mom told me to call my GYN/ONC because he has and doctor on call that can help me right now instead of waiting for my pain doctor to come into work. I told the on call doctor that if I had hair I would be pulling it out. With her help I realized the pain had increased once the tramadol was working it's way out of my body. She moved me to 60mg of morphine three times a day and 40mg every four hours as needed for the pain and I am to call my doctor today after his office opens. I am worried that when I call him he is going to tell me no go back to what I have you on and I will see you October 20th. One thing is I will run out before my next appointment if he does not approve the increase and if I run out I have to wait until my next appointment before I can be refilled and two that if I have to go through much more of this pain I am going to hurt someone. Please pray he will increase the medication and that he will write a new script for me since I upped it I am doing a little better because before the increase I could bearly walk that is how much pain I am in. I am still in alot of pain but I can work through this, I know that it will take a few days to build up before I really start to feel better and don't feel like killing anyone.

I can't imagine having to take that much pain medicine. What is your pain caused by, if I might ask? I sure hope you can get it under control. I certainly have no advice, but 'am sure thinking of you and 'hope you get some relief. Ginny

    Addictive drugs
    Anne,
Most of these pain medications you are taking are addictive. They can be really difficult to wean off of and you may need some other meds to help with this. Sometimes, the body thinks it is in pain when you are dicontinuing these drugs, when, in fact, it is not. I was on a lot of pain meds throughout treatment. I don't know exactly what was causing the pain, but I think it was related to the surgery. I slowly weaned myself off of the medications one at a time after I was done with chemo. I didn't have the problem of phantom pain, but I did feel like I had the flu for a week or so with each medication I discontinued. I was told, after the fact, that they can prescribe something to help with the withdrawls.

    SO SORRY, ANNE
Have they confirmed exactly what the pain is from? Sorry if I missed that in your post. I'll pray for you, Anne. Try to hang in there. Hopefully, the doc will find a better combination for you to make day-to-day life more bearable.

You have a lot to deal with. Fibromyalgia and migraines are more than enough to deal with without adding ov/ca and chemo. Please remember to be assertive with your doctors. Only you know how you really feel.

    Pain management
    Dear Anne

It sounds like you are going to have to find a pain management doctor--someone who specializes in pain control. You need a referral from your family doctor for the pain specialist.

There are lots of other options besides narcotics that could be used to bring you relief--acupuncture come to mind.

    Best wishes,

    Dear Anne
I'm so very sorry that you are having to endure this. My sister-in-law recently had a very major, life threatening back surgery and your pain level sounds familiar. She's tough also, but the pain was so scary that she would become extremely anxious that her pain level would rise. Her pain doctor has been able to get it under control and I'm hoping the right combo will be found to give you relief.

    Hang in there !
A pain management Dr should be able to control your pain it will be okay soon. No one should have to suffer in this day and age. Make sure you let them know what is going on so they can adjust the meds I would stick with the pain management Dr as most other physicians are not trained to deal with this type of pain. Also if you need immediate care after hours you can go to the emergency room. I hope you feel better soon.

    pain
I am travelling this week to the funeral of my dear friend who died after 5 years of fighting Stage 4 lung cancer. She was never free of tumors or the pain. She also worried about addiction and her doc told her that was only a word and if he could make her remaining time comfortable, quit worrying about it. When she had brain surgery, I was surprised they supplemented her morphine with a dilaudin, a very inexpensive pain killer that has been around since the civil war. So make them try to look at various choices as it is so hard to fight the good fight and deal with mental and psychological issues if the pain is overwhelming. Good luck.

I am hoping that your pain
I am hoping that your pain is getting better. I can only understand a fraction of the pain you must be feeling. I have been waking up in extreme pain from arthritis. It sucks so much. I had my doctor refill my pain meds and now i have to see a primary care doctor just so he can refer to a Rheumatologist. Where I will probrally have to go on more medicine. So annoying. When I was in the hospital the doctor put me on diluadin. It is cheaper and it is actually stronger than morphine she said. It knocked me the hell out. Maybe they can have you try it and see if it works to control your pain. You probrally have a high pain tolerance now that you could actually take it and function. I hope for the best for you.

    differnt causes
I already had migriane and fibromyalgo so I was on ibupofin 1800 mg a day and 200mgs a day of tramadol. The chemo taxol (and I just found out the advastin also) causes bone pain. So my ONC sent me to a pain doctor who put me on 90mgs a day of the morphine and 10-20mgs of oxycodone for brake through pain. What I did not realize was how much the tramadol was really helpping me because when he started loworing the dose of tramadol the pain increased and by the time I was on my last one it was unbareable.

    oxycondone
I have started winnie my self of the codone I am down to 20 ever 4-6 hours and I am doing better by the time I see my pain doctor on Wed. I hope to be off the oxycodone completely I did understand some of it was from the withdrawl but that night I was out of my mind in pain I am doing much better now and today trying to get off the codone.

thank you all for all of you advise
I am feeling much better since my onc told me to take 60 mg three times a day and 40mg every four hours until I get in to see my pain specialest. I am schedule with him on October 3 instead of October 20th I started takeing 60mg thee times a day of the morphine and 40mg of oxycodone ever four hours. Today I started pulling myself off the oxycodone I take only 20mg every 4-6 hours and will only increase it to 40mgs if I am starting to feel more pain before it is time for the morphine. For right now I feel so much better than I had the days before. I just had my fifth chemo treatment yesturday and to cut down today on the oxycodone right after the chemo is great. thank you all for your prays and advise I know that is what is making me fell so much better keep the prayers coming I love all my teal sisters. :)
