mouth sores

I haven't
I haven't had them yet..keeping my fingers crossed. I've read in other posts that Toms and Biotene toothpaste are best to use, along with biotene mouthwash. I've started using both just in case. There is also a homemade recipe they gave me in my "chemo class":
Add 1/4 t table salt & 1/4 t baking soda to one cup tap water, stir to mix.
swish in mouth for at least 30 seconds and spit out. Use after meals and at bedtime.
Make a fresh mixture for each use.
Sorry you are having this to deal with on top of everything else.
Hugs,

Soft tooth brush, biotene,
Soft tooth brush, biotene, but really I found nothing really helped me to much. So I have really been out of the loop here. Your back in treatment ? I have been in and out of the site here, kinda fighting my own problems lately. I am not sick or anything. I'm so sorry you have this problem, wish there was something I could tell you my friend.

I had them after my first
I had them after my first chemo - awful! I used the Biotene mouthwash and toothpaste. It helped some but it took a week for them go away. I feel terrible for you. Hang in there - they will eventually go away. You're in my prayers and sending lots of light.

Have your oncologist prescribe NYSTATIN....keep it in the frig.....I used it .. You swish it around in your mouth 4x a day and spit it out....it has a numbing effect and pain reliever in it...it works great! But it has to be prescribed.....don't wait until Monday, call tomorrow morning for who ever is on call and have them prescribe it...
Hoping you feel better....sending you a big hug, Laurissa....

Just a suggestion ..
Chemotherapy can cause sores in your mouth and throat. These sores can become infected by yeast, bacteria, or viruses in your mouth. Chemotherapy medications can also make mouth tissues dry or irritated and cause them to bleed. Sores and dry mouth tissue can make eating painful. Even your favorite foods may irritate your mouth.
Chamomile is used as a mouth rinse to treat sores that can be caused by chemotherapy. It is also thought to be a sleep aid. Usual dose : For a mouth rinse, 10 to 15 drops of liquid extract in a half cup of warm water are used 3 times per day.
Gentle Hugs,

every morning and night throughout my chemo. I;ve been told that baking soda is just as good as Magic Mouthwash, have not had Magic Mouthwash myself so cannot confirm.
I also ate popsicles while I was getting the drip for one of the drugs, Cytoxane I think (whatever the C is in FEC (and TAC)) which I was told would reduce the probabilty of mouth sores.
Either I was just lucky or these methods did work since I did not get any sores.
Hope you feel better soon,

I also used baking soda and a dash of salt daily. It works wonders. Give it a try... it's inexpensive and it works!!!

My oncologist wrote a
My oncologist wrote a prescription for a mouthwash that they use for the patients at Baylor in Dallas, Tx. It sounds like yours are really bad, though. I also used baking soda in water and swished that around my mouth. I am so sorry you're having to deal with this. Oh, popsickles or sucking on ice chips helped some.
Sending hugs,

will give you something. I had a horrible time with them. Also switch to kids toothpaste it makes a world of difference. Your teeth won't feel as clean but it will help the sores heal faster. There is a triple mix mouthwash or just plain old laticane? your doc can prescribe. I haven't had any so far this round...but I know the how annoying they are.0 -
Ice Chips
Hi -- Sorry you are having these sores. I never had them, thank God. But it was suggested to me to chew on ice chips during the fusions, and I did. I also had all biotene products for mouth care - would brush teeth after every meal and after and before bed time. Once you develop the sores, Doctors can prescribe meds to you for comfort, they can numb it so you don't feel pain. I know it's probably hard to eat once you have these, but there is also a list of suggested foods to eat such as mashes potatoes, eggs, smoothies, broths, etc.. (not too hot). I hope you feel better soon and please keep us posted when you can.0 -

I forgot about the ice. I chewed ice during the whole second chemo and didn't get the mouth sores nearly as bad as I did after the first treatment. Worth a try.
Hugs and light
