Black Tongue

I am on the verge of becoming a "registered Chow Dog" - my tongue has several black spots and they are growing. If this were on someone else I'd probably stare, smile (possibly giggle to myself) and throw them bone but the fact is it is happening to me. My Dr told me "don't worry about it" but that is hard to do when you are morphing into something new as each day goes on.

I started my g-tube in Jan and do 100% nutrition through this and don't know if this is common for tubers; again my Dr said don't worry.

Just wondering if anone else has encounterd this...not a major issue but DAMN MY TONGUE IS TURNING COLORS - :>)

Peroxide won't bleach it either.

    Yeah, anybody else, and I'd be intrigued and amused. But since it's "one of us" . . . Any chance you're on antibiotics? I know that's a possible side effect of the penicillin I'm on. Whether you find the source or not, hope it goes away pronto.

    No antibiotics
    Blood pressure, thyroid, aspirin and chloestrol - been taking for years and this just showed up.

    Pepto Bismal turns your tounge black, but I cannot say I have seen black spots.

    I will say that if my Dr was wrong and this really isn't "something not to be concerned with" I will be pissed.

    When I find the cause I'll post it.

    Black spots would make me nervous. I would be pissed it he was wrong, too!

    I have had my tongue turn black from the pepto. Was kinda scary. Lol

    How's your hydration...I found this when I Googled cause of Black Tongue;

    Not getting enough fluids can also lead to black tongue. According to WebMD , dehydration is often a cause of black tongue.

    could be
    I sip water all day and 10-12 ensures as well. I'll try more.

    Right now I have one spot that looks like Africa and one that is shaped like Peru

    Well, if one pops up that looks like North America, I'd suggest a visit with a new doc. :)

    Just be careful of Chile, might not agree with you.....

    You better watch out posting photos of Black Tongue...if it's anything like Black Salve, you might get booted from the site.

    Dang 10 - 12 Ensures...that's over 3000 calories.

    up to 165 so will cut to 10.

    I wouldn't think with drinking as much as you do it would be a hydration problem.... What has changed in your diet over the last few weeks or months before the black tongue occured.

    There you go....
    And you are doing 10 - 12 per day....that just might be what's causing the black tongue...I have no idea why.

    Not sure what you were doing before for calories..But as an experiment, you might wanna cut the Ensure and go back to the other for a week or so.

    I sure hope you don't grow hair on it lol! Mine turned grey during treatment & once I felt better I started brushing mine again with a tongue brush & tooth paste. It is nice & pink again. I have to research this one, now I am intrigued!

    I have a problem with black spots but not on my tongue, (please don’t ask where as I can say that here) doctor told me the same thing not to worry about it, they seems to have finial stopped. Not sure if it is a side effects of treatment or not.

    It really does have a fuzzy feeling but no hair yet :>)

    I woulld ask the doc what is
    I woulld ask the doc what is causing it. Just saying it is nothing to worry about would not satisfy me since that is what they told my husband for three years and it turned out to be cancer.
