How to care for a bald head
1. Should I shampoo and condition?
2. Treat it like my face and cleanse, tone and moisturize? Occasional exfoliation and mask?
3. Just soap it up like the rest of my body?
Lemme know ladies...you are the best!

what I do
Well, I do all three, but not at the same time. One day I may use just soap and another day I use shampoo and conditioner and pretend I have hair. lol! Hey whatever works. But you should definitely use suntan lotion if you go out bald. I will go bald or with a rag on my head because it is just too dang hot.0 -
sun screen
I just washed it like my face. But don't forget the sun protection !

Being Bald
I used Nizoral shampoo and all bumpies and itchies went away. I also used moisturizer with SPF protection on it every morning. I stayed away from soap because it tends to dry sensitive skin.
Always remember sunscreen and a Hat. There are hats that have an SPF rating, too. Very nice ones. I have a couple of straw sun hats that I love!
Finally, unless your totally into having hair and won't leave your house without a wig....I have to say that I LOVE wearing scarves. They're cooler and more versatile and for the price of a wig, I can buy 10 - 15 different scarves. I tend to stick with the 35 or 36 inch square squares. There's a large number of websites that specialize in scarves.

Ok Susan- I did not shave my head yet. My stylist told me not too just yet. I have very thick hair also. She didn't see any thin areas so we are waiting. It still seems to be coming out, but not like it was. I wish you good luck on thursday as well. Keep posting on here so we can stay in touch. I think the way you described the chemo is a great idea. Thats a good way to visualize it. I had my blood work done again today too. I am anxious to see results. Jackie0 -

I used tea tree oil shampoo and a safety razor to shave my head (probably not recommended--though I never nicked myself). I liked having a super smooth head.
Before I got into the shower, I brushed my scalp with a natural bristle brush. The lady who sold me my wig said that the scalp needed to be brushed or I would get "cradle cap" like babies do.

Thanks Ladies
I still have some stubble so i shampoo and massage with a wash cloth. Thanks for the advice....cradle cap huh? I will get a baby brush ASAP. My pub's are comming out now, but the eye brows and lashes are still intact!
Jackie...i will keep you posted on tomorrow's chemo. Good luck with your treatment.

I use liquid shower/bath soap, so I just washed my head with whatever I used on the rest. Sometimes it was plain old Irish Spring, and sometimes something more exotic, like Rosemary and mint. I use baby oil to remove makeup and I used to smooth my head with it, as well, post-shower. My husband loved the "clean baby" smell when he kissed me goodnight!
I never had any issues....no cradle cap, no dry skin, etc.
Susan...my eyelashes and brows were the last to go, too. Definitely not the first to come back in, though.

Great question! My scalp is super sensitive. It is breaking out. It itches like no tomorrow. I am using hydrocortisone to help with the irritation. I will try some of the other suggestions here. I will also ask the doctor when I see him. This is just driving me nuts.
I have to keep it covered because it is so light sensitive. Then again my whole skin is light/heat sensitive.0 -

Hi All ! 2nd chemo done and gone. I don't want to jinx myself but I feel great ! Ca 125 is down anothet 300 pts- 1346 ! I also had this therapy today after the tx. It's called Jin Shin Jutsu. They have it for free at Markey Cancer Center at the University of Kentucky. Anyway I met this practioner at the local ovarian cancer support group. She came in as a guest speaker. It is WONDERFUL! It took about an hour and is kind of like acupressure without the needles. It is just a hand touch, but it made me feel so good. I hope it carries on over for the next few days. I was just wondering if anyone else had ever heard of it ? I plan on definitely having one after every tx.
Susan I hope you did well with your tx today. Been thinking of you all day . jackie0 -

Dear Jackie
How wonderful for you that you were able to experience the benefits of JSJ! My sister lives in Kentucky and she learned about this hands on healing technique a couple of years ago. We both took the level I JSJ workshop in 2009 (the year before I was diagnosed with OVCA).
When you are able to see the JSJ practitioner again, ask her about "holding fingers." Apparently, each finger relates to a different emotion and you can "treat yourself" by knowing which finger to hold when you are worried, scared, angry, sad or "trying too hard." All that being said, you could just start with the thumb and work over to the pinkie to cover all the bases (holding your tumb helps when you are worried and so on).
The holding fingers technique works great with children, too.
take care,

Your after treatment sounds wonderful. I am feeling okay. The bone pain is the worst. I do make myself go out for short and slow walks twice a day. My appetite is good....no vomiting. I do have some insomnia and weepyness. I will look into getting at least a massage. I have been using a hot tub for the bone pain and strong ibruprophen. At night I do take a Norco....they send me to la la land!
Hang in there....my chemo #3 is scheduled for August 4th....what about you.

Hey Susan !! I know what you mean about the bone pain. I had it also. Sometimes it feels like the chemo is working down your body. I always have a flushed face the day after. Then the next few days it goes into my arms and joints and then on down to my knees and finally in my shins and feet. That may sound weird but thats how I visualize it on its way out. I have been feeling really crappy since Sat. I really haven't done much of anything. I have another tx on Aug. 4th also. That will be #3 ! Yeah !! I still have some hair- really short but still here . None is growing though. I also have terrible insomnia. My onc requested a visit before my next tx. He said he likes to see his pts before the 3rd and 6th txs. I don't think I could manage the pain at all without the ibuprofen. Stay in touch when you feel like posting- I am a faithful reader usually late at night. You hang in there too ! Talk to you soon- Jackie0 -

It has been a week since chemo 2 and I am on the mend. I have all the same symptoms as you. I am also seeing my ONC before my 3rd treatment. What stage were you in? I was 3C. Have they given you the results of your CA125 after your first treatment? Mine was down to 29. I found out through some old records that my "normal" seems to be around 10. I assume that chemo 3 will be worse as far as side effects. My hair has been growing back, but I assume it will fall out. It is sooo HOT to wear a wig. I am doing scarves. I found this website that sells a scarf called Beau Beau....sooo worth the money.

Hey Susan ! I was diagnosed a 3c also. My numbers were quite high. My first ca125 was almost 4500. The first one after was 1600 and now down to 1360. My numbers were awful, but still coming down which I am very happy about !! I am feeling better too. I am hoping #3 will be easier !! For both of us. I still have some hair- pretty thin on top. I dont seem to be losing as much as I was. It will all probably all fall out next week. LOL! Where did you find this web site- what is it called ? I would like to find some pretty scarves. I got a little of my appetite back. Some things just taste so different. I can not drink tea anymore. I have switched to zero sierra mist. It seems to taste so good and helps when I dont eat much. I eat a lot of crackers too. I am not looking forward to the wig thing at all. I would love to check out the scarf you got. Stay well and feel better everyday !!Stay in touch. Jackie0 -

Just google beau beau scarf. I cant remember the website. I think it is 4women??? Wow your CA125's have really dropped. My hair started to grow back and has gone gray. It will fall out again about day 10 or 11 after chemo 2. I have an appetite. I eat super healthy, but actually gained 3 pounds from Chemo 1 to chemo 2. Everything I eat is really healthy, but with the bone pains....my activity level is way down. My taste buds have changed. My morning coffee doesnt taste the same and orange juice tastes funny to me.
