Killing a tumor with magnetism?
http://news.sciencemag.org/sciencenow/2011/07/magnetic-nanoparticles-fry-tumor.html
Basically, they inject a dose of very, very small particles of a magnetic substance, then place the area inside a magnetic field which reacts with the particles causing them to heat the tumor and kill the cells. The only side-effects detected so far is an allergic reaction to the particles... but I'm betting a nice dose of benedryl would take care of that
Interesting read.

Magnetic attraction?
It should be noted, that -anything- can kill cancer cells, just as
"anything" can kill the aids virus.
The problem isn't "what killing agent to use", the problem is:
how to hit the target with the killing agent.
Cancer cells will die if you inject them with Coca Cola (or
Pepsi Cola), or magnetic particles, or grape seed extract,
or Almond extract, or ________ (fill in the blank).
Eating, drinking, or otherwise ingesting, or injecting, the "killing
agent" into the body in toto, will not do what it can do when it is
injected into the cancer cell directly.
There are indeed, other methods of addressing cancer cells
that have worked well for a few thousand years or more.....
And there are many other "alternatives" that have been
around nearly as long, that some can attest to as having
worked well for them.
But "magnets".......?
Grapes seeds are less expensive, and are easier to digest.

Best of health!

Your cynicism is refreshing.
I admit, when I saw "magnetism" my quack alarm went off. However, the magnetic particles are just a heat generator, much like radiation, and they kill the cancer, not the healthy tissue.
You are correct that other substances can do the same, but delivery is an issue, and many of those substances kill healthy tissue as well.
Of course, even if this can be made to work in humans it is probably 15 to 20 years away, so the point is merely an academic one.
Lighten up. It is not going to replace your four thousand (though most scholars say 2.5) year old medicine.0 -

Good to see you posting again!
We thought you had left the forum for good!
The "going away" party wasn't totally in vain however, and we
did save you some Beer Nuts.
(It is good to read your delightful posts again; they manage
to keep my blood flowing without the use of Heparin)
Stay well!

Killing Cancer
This reminds me of the The Kanzius Machine in a way because of how it tries to target the cancer cells and leave the other cells OK. 60 Minutes had done a profile on the Doctor too.
Thanks for posting. Always nice to see other information.

Really? I doubt a week has gone by where I did not post something, and I am up to day 7 on my Europe trip.
Heck, we posted together in more than one recent thread.
Anyway, thanks for the beer nuts, and I am happy to hear that your blood still flows.
Health to you,

advances that excite me
This is one of the advances in cancer treatment that excite me...as does almost every application of nanotechnology I've read about. Great stuff! Hopefully we'll see some big changes within medicine happening in our lifetime.0 -

May turn into a turd in the punch bowl (and likely will... who knows what the long term effects of having those particles in your system might be), but I thought it looked interesting0 -

It'd be hell trying to swim in the pool, with the continual swings to the north....
And just the thought alone, of all those refrigerator thingies sticking to me... ugh.
Naww, I'll pass on this invention...0 -

i love it, we have the widest range of descriptive phrases.
the future is looking good, one day one of these groups will deliver the smoking gun
and we can all celebrate.
todays alternative or complementary maybe tomorrows mainstream.

I'd happily trade my cancer for some residual magnetized iron-oxide in my body...getting rid of a tumor without chemo, radiation, resections, etc? Yay!!!0
