I would assume if she has a healthy kidney and doesn't go crazy over doing it, a multivitamin should be fine. She should definitely contact her doctor with this question.
She should be drinking plenty of water, limit her protein and salt in take as well.0 -

Thanks for your reply! I was asking since my friend does NOT have any insurance and had her kidney taken out via a county facility. It takes forever to see a doctor and she is unable to get any answers. Julie0 -
Check her diet

you have to be careful with one kidney not to overload. Just like you don't want to drink too much water, you don't want to have the kidney filtering out too much garbage if you are already getting it in the food you eat. Waste of money too!0 -
Intake with One Kidney
You need to be careful. The hospital should be doing regular blood tests to verify that the remaining kidney is functioning properly and taking the "Load". You absolutely DO NOT want to overload that kidney until it is used to the additional work. I was eating a lot of fruit and did not space out my meal plan before one blood test and ended up with a very high potassium level which alarmed my Doctor. I had potatoes for lunch and Dinner and then a banana in my morning cereal the morning before my blood test and that was the cause. Taking a multi vitamin can spike levels of certain nutrients when combined with normal diet and you have to be careful. I would suggest a healthy diet with lots of veggies and fruits and leave the multi vitamin on the shelf. Make sure that the hospital is doing regular blood tests. The Oncologist should be scheduling these. If not, insist on it.

vitamins with one kidney
I like you had one kiney removed in 1976. I take vitamins ,but am on a special diet. For me potassium and phosphorous are bad. Which means: no poatas, avacados, tomatos, orange juice ,etc.,etc. And thay were some of my favorite foods. Since going on this diet my kidney function has improved considerably.0 -

Hi Julie
My Doctor actually encouraged me to take a daily vitamin. Your body will rid of what it doesn't need via the liver and kidney.
Valerie
As long as the other kidney is functioning fine, a multivitamin would not hurt. Stay way from mega doses and speak to your doctor about this of course
I tend to look for whole food vitamins if you are going to take one. That is what I give my wife.0
