Question for Clamryn (Linda)
I was wondering though, are you on any type of a blood thinner? If you are, what are you on. Any information you can give me will be most appreciated.
Thanks.

Hello
Hello,
I wanted to let you know that I am only on Avastin. No chemo agent is being taken with it. I was suppose to take Gemzar with the Avastin but the insurance company didn't approve and my doctor then went with Avastin alone. Everything I had read said that the Avastin works better with a chemo agent. So when I went for my PET/Scan, I really wasn't expecting too much. I about fell off the chair when the doctor told me it was killing the cancer cells. I had 4 treatments (every 3 weeks) and then I had went for my PET/Scan.
Yes, I am on a blood thinner. Prescription was for coumidin (1mg) but I am taking the generic warafin (1mg). The reason I was put on the blood thinner was because I have a power port.
I will be watching for your post to see how you did on your CTScan at the end of the month. I sure hope and pray it is working for you.
Sending hugs and prayers to you.

Linda: I have a PowerPort, too, but I'm not taking any warfarin. Interesting difference of opinion between doctors. Unless there is more to the story.
Your dose seems very low. I am wondering if you go in for blood tests on a regular basis to check how thin your blood is and were told to avoid eating green leafy veggies. Or maybe your dose is so low, there is no worry about being overdosed.
thanks,

LQ,
You are correct. Due to taking such a low dosage, I do not get my blood checked. The only thing he told me was that because of the port he didn't want me to get a blood clot.
