I went for My pre-op today, just wondering , I have kidney cancer and they going to remove My right kidney on May 4th, so I am wondering why would they xray my chest today, has this been done to any of You before You had Your kidney out?
Yeppers, Iceman is correct. They just want to make sure nothing spread to the lungs. I also had a bone scan prior to my surgery to make sure nothing settled in my bones. Both tests came back negative!!0 -
Thanks, I was very worriedbabycakes11 said:X-ray

Thanks, I was very worried
I was worried that they had found something wrong from the xray that they took, but I am starting to get a little worried and scared about what is coming this Wed. I go in at 7am and they start working on my kidney at 9am "Mississippi time" but I am starting to get worried, being on here is great and full of info, but reading about what I will be going through with pain and not being to get around much, has me worried , I know I will need some help for a few days, I stay with My Mom and Dad, My Dad is 85 and not in good shape and My Mom is 81 and not in good shape, maybe the Doc can keep Me in the hospital for a few more days till I can start doing for My self, I hope.0 -

Puppetman,
You are going to get through this. Yes it is going to hurt and yes you are going to have a tough week or two after surgery. From there everything is uphill. You have to get thru this with flying colors so you can help me welcome the newcomers after you.
Best Wishes,

I've been reading this thread for quite a while and I hear your anxiety. I live alone (and did when I had my nephrectomy - open) - and did pretty well by myself. Now, I lived in an apartment so there were no stairs, I didn't have a dog that needed walking, so I could just sort of 'wobble' from room to room as needed. That was my exercise at first, just walking around the apartment with a solid wall or piece of furniture available if I needed to grab something. Make sure you have groceries in the house - soups, sandwich fixings, juice, anything easy to fix for the first days. You probably won't feel much like eating but it's important that you do! I quit the pain meds about the 4th day after discharge since I knew I wouldn't be able to drive while on them. Being a painfully independent person, I wanted to get moving sooner than later. I did have someone stop by my place each day for the first couple of days and of course family and friends called a couple of times a day too, just to make sure I was still 'right end up'. I know this is scary - you'd be crazy if you weren't! But as you've read here - we've all been through it and survived it. You will too! I'll say a prayer for you.0 -

Good to hear from you. You will be sore for some time but it gets better each day. Rest a lot and try to keep moving even if only a little at a time.
God Bless

Do you know your surgery date yet???
I had my left kidney removed in January and just wanted to say that I'm recovering quite well...3 1/2 months later and definitely feeling like the worst is behind me now.
I agree, everyones stories and support here is very helpful and encouraging.
Thoughts and prayers going out to you.

I have been home for almost 2 days now, the only thing the told Me was, stay away from dark stuff like drinks "cokes" stuff like that, stay away from table salt, high protein, the only thing I can say for now is, walk as much as You can, don't move fast and take thangs slow , DO NOT lay flat for the first week or so, trying to get up is painful "TRUST ME, IT IS VERY PAINFUL" and drink lots of water.0 -

Thank You for Your Prayers
Try this:
While lying down, roll over onto your right side. With your arms in front of your chest, plant your right elbow into the matress. Make a fist with your right hand. Cover your fist with your left hand and use your left arm to push yourself up.
That method uses your arm muscles, rather than your shredded abdmoninals to get yourself up.0
