4 days post mastecomy
I just wanted to touch base and let ya'll know that I am doing well. Thank You so very much for your prayers, hugs, and positive energy. The surgery went well and as you all already know I did come home the same day My husband and my Mom have been taking excellent care of me and I don't know what I would do without them. I'm a little sore, but mainly at the drainage sites. I've seen my chest and I am ok with it ( I really thought that I would freak out but I didn't) and my surgeon feels confident that she got all of the cancer. We will get the pathology report on Wednesday. I'm expecting an excellent report.
I hope you all are doing good and taking good care of yourselves. I love each and every one of you my sweet dear pink sisters.
Hugs and God Bless You,
Dawne

Thank you for the continued prayers. Renee, yes I am being pampered and I love it lol. My Mom said that when I am through with all of this I'm gonna be rotten ( I think I already am)0 -
I have been thinking about
I have been thinking about you and I am glad you are doing well. I am also glad you have people there with you. I too was very sore where my drain was and was very happy when it came out. I hope you are able to get them out as soon as possible. I had to put a piece of soft fabric under my drain tubes because it was starting to rub me raw.0 -
Hi there:
Just read your post.
I had a mastectomy on 3/7/11 and recovered well from it by resting lots. The worse thing is that I got really sore sleeping on my back. My husband got a wedge pillow from Bed Bath and Beyond for me which helped elevate my back and stopped the muscle spasms.
Also, once the drain is moved you will feel more comfortable lying on your side but use lots of pillows to prop up. I actually slept two nights in a lay-z-boy recliner and slept well. I recovered really well and it took me 4 days to look at my surgery site, so well done for already checking it out. My scar has healed amazingly well and once my chemo is over I can start my reconstruction (I have an expander in right now - skin sparing reconstruction.)
Unfortunately at the time of surgery, my sentinel nodes were removed and one of them showed a line of little dots (similar to DCIS - which I had 5 areas of in my breast)over an area of 9mm and the pathology showed it to be malignant and invasive - damn :-) Hence my new journey of chemo which starts on May 2. If I had just had the mastectomy I would have been fine with it - to me (and please excuse me for this) that was the easy part.
Hang in there and REST REST REST - you sound like you are in good hands with your family.

I'm so happy you're feeling
I'm so happy you're feeling well enough to post! I've been watching for you. It sounds like everything is going as expected...yay you! And how brave that you've already looked at the incisions. Keep resting, and let your mom and husband continue to take care of you. I'll continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
Big hugs,

Dawne, I'm so relieved that you have such a good support system. I had just the DH, but he was a one-man-show! These are the times when we can lay back and let others do the work. You have fought the good fight and now it's time to reap the rewards. Your Husband and Mother want to show their love for you, so let them! Good luck with your recovery!
Be Well,

Great News
I am glad that you are doing well. I ha no idea how much I would need to have someone home with me when I came home. I had a mastectomy and immediate reconstructions. I would not have been able to manage without the help. It is important to rest and not overdo. Your job is to recover. Blessings for your continued progress.0 -
Hi, Dawne!
So glad you're doing well, and that your family is taking good care of you. During any recovery, it's always important to follow the advice of your doctors & nurses. Sincerely hoping for the very best possible pathology results on Wednesday.
Kind regards, Susan0 -

Texas,
I'm also from Texas. I have already had the surgery and the drains are irritating. I could never get the little thing in a good spot. So glad you're doing well.
Yes the drains are driving me crazy. The little tabs have fallen off so I feel like the rubber tubing is rubbing my skin raw. I will be so glad when these things come out. What part of Texas are you from? This is crazy weather we are having huh.0 -

The weather here never ceases to amaze me. We have the air conditioner running one day and the heater the next day. I am near Dallas, Texas. What part are you from?0 -

Glad to hear you are doing well Dawne. My drain tubes were the only source of discomfort for me post op. Mine were stitched in and when the tubes hang down there was always a slight tug on the incision area. Very sore especially when I moved. So I took a bandaid and created a little sling. So gravity tugged on the bandaid instead of my tubes.
Hang in there it will soon be over and for the record mine didn't hurt one bit when they were pulled out.
Hugs,
