Do not fear deportation, Cavediver!
My surgeon removed mine in his office too. I was scared--but shouldn't have been. After he numbed it, he told me to turn my head to the other side and made an incision in the same scar. There was a little bit of tugging and pressure--but honestly--no pain at all. He put in a few dissolveable sutures (more tugging) and that was it. We chatted the whole time and it only took about 10 minutes from start to finish.
You're gonna do great--I promise!

Glad to hear that you are being de-ported. Let me know how it goes. I should be getting mine out sometime this summer. Can't wait.
Sorry to hear about your mom. Bless her heart.....97 years young. Hope she does well in rehab.
xoxo,
Jean
Don't be afraid, and certainly don't be apprehensive about the removal. I also had mine removed in the surgeon's office, and it really was a piece of cake. I didn't want to go under anesthesia again, so choose to do it "like a big girl". The whole process probably took 30 minutes (numb the area, slight stick to deaden the underlying tissue, small incision to get to the port, and then I didn't feel a thing when he removed the tubing(. The only casualty was my hubby, who came in the room with me. He passed out while they were removing the tubing, and they had to call in staff to revive him. So, in our family, we always advise everyone not to take an observer with you. It is so much harder on them! Let us know when it is over. Hugs, Judy0 -

There is no way that I would allow Hubby to be admitted while something is being done to me - or anyone else. He 'flops out'. When we were moving back to Whidbey Island from the Mojave Desert, younger Son had gotten his thumb caught in the topper door - squashed it good. Drove on to Whidbey, unloaded the horses and then took him to ER on base. Well I stayed in the truck with older Son and Hubby took him in. I fell asleep and a bit later I was woke by a nurse tell me I needed to come in - there had been an accident. Accident - in the ER - OMG. Nothing was wrong with Son - he had broken the bone in his thumb between the last joint and the end but no big deal. They had been drilling a hole through the nail to releave pressure and Sandy (Hubby/Dad) had passed out and hit the floor. Broke his glasses and put a good gash beside eye. There have been other times - but that was the worse one that he did to himself. Somehow he is accident prone and when he's done something to himself - he will seldom look at it toady - he just sits down and YELLS Susan!
They are so funny!

I totally agree with Renee
I totally agree with Renee and Judy...being deported didnt hurt at all while they were doing it...the only thing i felt was the shot to get it numb...but you do feel tugging and pressure but no pain. Once your done youll be saying you didnt need your big girl pants for that! hehe!0 -
Deportation Completed!!!!!!!!
Thanks everyone and you were right.....it did not hurt at all and was done rather quickly....probably only in their 15 minutes!!!! I only felt the prick of the needle to numb area (kind of burned)....but then nothing at all...no tugging or anything. The same surgeon who inserted it, and did my mastectomy is the one who removed it today. Yeah...it is a better feeling than I imagined...kind of like saying, ok---I am done with this now!
So now I am joining all of the sisters who have been saying it is no big deal and over quickly! Don't be afraid when they want to deport you! Hugs to all0 -

for the encouragement. I have yet to get a date to be deported but hope to have one soon. I see the onc on Wednesday and we'll talk about it then. I'm not sure if hubby should go or not. He was there when the drains came out and was okay so maybe.
Glad this went well for you!0 -
MY doctor now listens to me
NOT a port..but I had finger surgery while awake...I warned everyone and they wouldnt' listen...I was not very good...OMG terrible..then when he took stitches our in office...on way out..i passed out cold in lobby...he said OK next time I know you are serious...so few weeks later surgery on other hand...knocked out and in office laid me down to remove stitches..SO I can relate...
I HOPE your mom is adjusting and doing ok..

Just another sign that our .. journey is coming to an end. Who would of thought this, 12 months ago during the chemo transfusions ...crawling around our homes, WBC counts down, weak, tired ... thinking about nothing but getting ourselves thru to the next chemo appointment, and treatment.
There is 'LIFE' after a breast cancer diagnosis ... You are Living proof right here!!!!!
Congratulations!

sore tonight
felt pretty good after deportation....went to visit Mom in hospital @2 pm........... the numbing started to wear off by 5 pm........went to Chili's with hubby and brother and had a few Presidente Margaritas to help ease the pain....... thinking now of trying to get some sleep...Mom should be transferred to a rehab center tomorrow...so another full day...but better to think of someone else than myself! But I have to tell you all....wow, what a feeling to touch the area and it is flat (sore, but flat) rather than the 'raised' port feeling! It is definitely "MOving On"!!!!0 -
Congrats on the deportationcavediver said:Deportation Completed!!!!!!!!
