    All I can say is that some people are just clueless! Radiation is very taxing on your body, and can make you very uncomfortable. I would tell them that. The general public just dosen't get it.

    maybe since it isn't as "SERIOUS"! I have no idea really...LIKE I SAID I LOVE MY GYNO who called and told me...just for my bone scan results I HAD TO GO IN....office..

    The surgeon (general) told me on my follow up about 2 wks or less...he was leaving the area...I wish he had told me prior...I would have found another doctor..I know that is why HE didn't tell me..but it would have been nice to have the option

    early stage
    I had Stage one Grade 2 early stage cancer, I had a lumpectomy, and radiation. Radiation was pretty tough for me to go through with burns, and fatigue. It was doable, but it took a while for the effects to leave my body. Now tamoxifen, that is whole other story. Who in the world wants to go on a drug that gives hot flashes, and all the other side effects that goes with it. I agree they don't get it! Mary

    I am being totally serious...what exactly is fatigue? Drs would ask me and I would say I DONT" THINK I had it...they said IF I HAD to ask I DID NOT...

    I really don't know...could you explain..

    I did not really get any side effects from radiation..thankfully..

    I barely got tan on chest-that was it...!

    Fatigue
    is when you feel dead tired and even sleep doesn't help. I was told by my rads nurse that although nobody mentions it, fatigue is a SE of chemo 3-4 months out and at the time I had been through 6 weeks of rads, she asked if that made me feel better knowing that the fatigue I was feeling was real.

    Thanks for info...I really don't / didnt' know exactly what fatigue was. But like I said the dr said if YOU have to ask you don' thave it!


    I am very high energy person and always have been- so I told my dr maybe radiation would even me out to normal level. (I was 48 yr then) IT will be 3 yrs monday since lumpectomy

    I had double mastectomy, chemo & rads. One of my sisters had lumpectomy, chemo & rads. Another sister had 2 lumpectomies 9 years apart and rads both times. I would never say to them well you only had lumpectomy or rads. It's insulting. Breast cancer is breast cancer no matter what way you look at it.

    Visible side effects vs. hidden ones
    In my experience, a big part of the issue is treatment that causes visible side effects vs. hidden ones.

    Since I don't normally walk around through life topless :-), I got comments after my surgery like, "You look like you didn't even have surgery!" Same during radiation -- oh, it must not be a big deal, because you look fine. And now on Tamoxifen -- what a joy to be on a drug that makes my body think it's in menopause, while I still have the privilege of menstruating every darn month. But no one can see that, and I get comments like, "No, really -- you STILL have to take that?"

    Part of me was glad when I did chemo, and FINALLY got some sympathy, because my hair fell out and I was as pale as a ghost much of the time. Honestly, I think some of the people I work with didn't really believe I had cancer until then.

    It was probably helpful to have a co-worker going through it the same time.That didn't happen with me. Did it alone but have many friends who've had breast cancer. So I know all the ins and outs. On another post I mentioned all their cases.

    10 years for your cancer to grow.A very very long time.I've been like you never miss a mammo. I know we can have a mammo one month and the next month a tumor.It happened to someone and she only lived 6 months.She was told the mammo didn't show it the first time.That is RARE but guess it can happen.Scary.

    The BC radilogist found mine.BUT my doctor waited weeks before he told the radiology doctor to biopsy.I never said a word to my husband.Didn't tell him a tumor was found all that time.Finally my friend took me for the biopsy.2 days later I was called to my docs office Malignant.I go home and tell my husband.I have breast cancer.He said THAT'S NOT GOOD. I think "Sure isn't"!!!!!!!!

    My doc call me with pathology results, I was in London at that time. I have never had needle biopsy, I directly underwent lumpectomy, and 48 hours later left LA for business meeting in London. My doc call me when I was in London.
