Hi,

Just received an email about this help message board being discontinued? Hope it was a hacked email and not true. Anyone else get the same email?

Just saw the notification, I guess its true. Very sad loss of support for us cancer survivors.

I just signed up on the “My prostate cancer team”. Hope to see some of you over on that site.

All good things eventually come to an end. So too, is the case with this Discussion Board.

It has been an honor and pleasure to communicate and share PCa experiences with the folks on this Board. I will remember all of you.

This is absolutely terrible news! How much could it possibly cost American Cancer Society to support this forum? This is almost self-running.

This has been a tremendous value to me through the course of my cancer discovery and treatment. I will be interested to see what other people will be utilizing in the future.

Sadly, it’s the way of the online forum format, which is widely seen as old-fashioned these days, when everything is moving to other structures, seen as more immediate/instant than a place where thoughtful interaction takes place and friendships are formed over a longer term.

I'm on a few other forums, and two are fighting the same situation - trying to stay afloat while so many people abandon ship for the TikTok/Instagram/Snapchat space that’s so prevalent now.

Being fairly new to this place, and prostate cancer in general, I’m hoping to see some alternative forums listed here as well all move out and on. In the short time I’ve been here, I’ve learned a lot.

Disturbing news! 😪 I found this site invaluable. Hopefully a consensus of a recommended site will be discussed before this one shuts down and we can meet there to continue our conversations.

This site's software for the forum is great, and the participants great too. Sucks that they are going to kill it.

    Sigh

I literally feel like they are abandoning their customers/patients.

Sad to hear. This site has given many of us years of great information sharing etc. Over 17 years for me. Again, sorry to hear 😢

Although there's still around 7 weeks to go before they pull the plug here and it's easy to pretend it's not happening, it is what it is. In preparation, I've just had a look at the MyProstateCancerTeam site. The need to create an account just to lurk there helps no-one!

I don't think I'll bother creating an account over there. Maybe I'll think about it again in the future, but there's nothing to compel me to sign up now before this forum shuts down. In the meantime, and even though it will ultimately be pointless, I'll provide one more update to my 'On_A_Journey's journey' thread after my next follow up on Friday week and leave it at that.

It will be sad to see this forum die. I have benefited from the shared experiences of others over the years as well as from writing about my own, and I hope that my experiences that I've shared may have sometimes been of benefit to others too. But again, it is what it is.

In case I don't say it later, I wish you all the very best.

I've been looking at other Pca sites and so far am considering Health Unlocked Prostate Cancer Network and also the Prostate Cancer Support Group through Mayo Clinic. You can't post on either of these until you subscribe but you can read posts without subscribing. I'm thinking if we agree on a site we could subscribe using the same user names we had on here which would allow us to not loose touch. Opinions?

Of the three networks, I like the two swl1956 posted since you can monitor without signing in. The Healthunlocked appears very UK oriented with one sponsor the NHS which with the health care treatments regulated in the UK what is offered through the government health service you don’t necessarily get the latest treatments or can go pursue them. I would hesitate to post knowing what I was offered and able to access quickly might not be so available to others overthere. Now the Mayo seems to me a more promising site knowing more patients may be based in the US and can effectively travel not to difficult distances to pursue treatments they might hear about on the site. The one recommended by our site seems not be able to access it without signing on, I would need to hear from others what they think about that site. I only want to monitor one site so i will be taking in what everyone seems to be recommending as the best one to replace ours over the next few weeks before we close up.

This sucks. This site has been super helpful. For anyone that does jump on other sites, comment here while it's still up. Will be checking out sone of the suggestions.

I just went on the Mayos site and registered. It looks and feels very similar to CSN. My initial impression is good. But I will also hear what everyone here has to say and wants to do.

I like the history we have together along with the even-handed suggestions. So I would like to stick together if possible.

It is a sad news and I am very disappointed about the shutdown. I really like this forum for many reasons and I will miss it greatly. I wish you all the best in your journey.
But I found a good alternative place to continue the discussion on PCA on the Zero prostate cancer forum “inspire”. I like the fact there is an app on the phone. Here is the link :

I too am liking the Mayo Clinic's site so far. It does seem similar to CSN. I have joined it to give it a try and used the same username I have here.

Thanks to everyone who has posted. My prostate came out 2 days ago. All of the pre and post op ideas have help me prepare the best that I could. It has been hard to stay positive, but you have helped. Hope to see some of you on another forum. Stay strong.

    Keninidaho,

It sounds like you are already heading towards your recovery by jumping right onto the board and posting. It is only two days ago and you are certainly learning to handle the catheter for a few more days before the next step in recovery with its removal. Each day you get stronger. Keep us advised as this board still has 7 weeks.
