Bleeding Update
My Onc/Med team have decided to take me off of the Cabo for a couple of weeks, in part because I have oral surgery on Tuesday, and because they are concerned with all of the bleeding. I have been very ill since switching to Cabo even more so then when I was on Votrient. I have been considering discontinuing all chemo and just sticking with radiation, and surgeries as needed. The chemo treatments have made me very ill most of the time and with exception to Votrient nothing has worked, the votrient worked for six months that was nice and worth all of the flu like symptoms that occured everyday. I know my med team is leaving it up to me I do have a tumor on my remaining kidney so that would have to be worked on right away. I will make my decision by next week, but I am open to thoughts, or advice.

Hey Mark, sorry you are in
Hey Mark, sorry you are in this dilemma. Perhaps more folks will post and give you their opinion.
I wonder why you are having oral surgery? I guess it must be necessary, otherwise who'd want to go through all that?
Sit quietly, in a serene place that offers you comfort. Just let everything go inside your head (best you can).
Trust your "inner voice" will guide you in this decision. Rest in quietness..
The truth-answer will come to you. After you empty your mind, pow, something or someone will say words that suddenly will make sense. Trust that..best you can.
I am here for you.. all the way
Sending you peaceful moments, with serenity and a knowingness that cannot be missed..
Hugs, jan

Decisions
Hi, Mark. I can't imagine the wrestling that your emotions are going through. You have a fighting spirit and strong heart--that is easy to tell by your personal page. I like to think I too have the internal fortitude that you do, Mark. At this point in my cancer journey I have not followed the same path as you, so I can only imagine what I would do if I was in your place. Because of that I agree with the responses from both Donna and Jan. Look within yourself to determine the answer. Pray and ask God to guide you. If you listen He will answer.
Blessings,
Stub

Hobson's Choice
I feel for you, and it has to be your decision. I'm not qualified to give advice, I would ask your medical team who are far more qualified than I. Are there any new treatments coming down the line? What are the consequences of you're choices? Are these new surgeries either urgent or necessary?
Good luck. You know we'll all be rooting for you

The oral surgery is just an extraction of a difficult tooth that has began to crumble inside my jaw. The dentist felt that given my bleeding issues it was best to have an oral surgeon do it that is also an MD. I am okay with this as I get nervous at the dentist so being put to sleep will help me with the stress and having an oral surgeon/MD there in case there is issues with bleeding can put my mind at ease somewhat.

I see. Oral surgery is also a source of infection, to remove it, yet open up the area to bacteria. Be very careful and
follow all post op directions. NOTHING with carbonation, no smoking (don't think you do), no straws, lots of ice. It usually heals up pretty fast (used to work in the dental field).
Hugs to you...dang, enuff!

The procedure went well there was some bleeding but not excessive and I have already began taking anti biotics to avoid infection. I am taking pain pills for the pain and they seem to be working fine. Thanks to everyone.

Wound healing
I know it is too late to offer this now, but have not been here in a long while. Many of the drugs for kidney cancer can cause wound healing complications. Please be sure not to start back on on the cabo too soon and contact your doc if anything seems unusual. I hope all goes well. This is on the box warning:
Wound Healing Complications
This medication can lead to slower or incomplete wound healing, such as a surgical wound not healing or staying closed. Therefore, it is recommended that the medication be discontinued 28 days prior to any surgery. In addition, any surgical incision should be fully healed prior to starting or restarting the medication. If you have a surgical wound that has not healed or begins to have signs of infection (redness, swelling, warmth), report this to your healthcare team.

Update
The oral surgery went well, I have been off the Cabo for almost three weeks now and no more bleeding issues. My Cancer team want me to start the Cabo back up next week but on lower dose. I have agreed to this but I told them if I start feeling as sick as I was or start bleeding like I was I will probably go off of it.
