HPV vaccination: Slate, July 8, 2016 article.
This article imparts some useful information in a national forum. And although I don't usually support Big Pharma
ads, the one in this article is dramatic and important. I'm glad I had my boys vaccinated 10 years ago, as was their
pediatrician. Spread the word

I had it done when I was 43.
I was sexually active and I asked the doctor if it has anything against it getting it at a late age. He said it may not prevent infection but won't hurt. Usually the give it before age 26. And I certainly had my daughter get it at 13.

It's good to hear that, Laz. I told many of my friends about vaccinating their kids against HPV when the vaccine was new, but many thought I was alarmist. Hmm, after the treatment we've all experienced? Yep, count me as an alarmist. All my nieces and nephews have been vaccinated, though, and even great-nieces and nephews now. It's my mission to get the word out. I wish there'd been a vaccine for me. Or even the certain knowledge that HPV causes anal cancer. I would have been more vigilant after I was told in the '80s that my abnormal Pap smear was likely undiagnosed papilloma virus, but not to worry, freezing my cervix would do the trick. They were right, I never had another abnormal pap, but my gynecologist and I may not have ignored my early symptoms of cancer 20 years later. Aloha.

Thanks for posting this. I agree. If parents knew the hell that we go through with this treatment, their attitudes might change regarding getting their kids vaccinated. I remember when I was in my 20's having abnormal paps--back then referred to as "Class II." They were always just repeated in a few months and always came back normal the second time. Now I truly believe that was a sign of HPV infection.

Martha, that was my experience to a T. And I suspect many, many other young women's.

My cancer was NOT due to HPV.
My cancer was NOT due to HPV. I had testing done prior to my clinical trial entry and I will NEVER vaccinate my son with the gardisal vaccine for my own reasons. There are too many things that we do not know yet about the vaccine and I'm not buying into it just yet although I have spent a LOT of time researching it. Big Pharma is NOT always our friend. I know this from working in the vaping advocacy space.

Sephie - My path report stated that neoplastic cells expressed "p16" among other markers for basaloid squamous cell anal ca. P16 indicates the presence of HPV. All my paps were ngative. No HPV tests were done.

Hey again, sorry I did not
Hey again, sorry I did not see this until now. As part of my cancer treatment, I participated in a phase 2 clinical trial with DNA mutation to attack the SCC that I had. As part of this protocol, I have DNA testing done with NO HPV so therefore mine was NOT caused by the virus. On a side note, I was pregnant with my son and the HCG fueled my cancer the team said. They suspected that I would not have become symptomatic if I had not become pregnant for about 15-20 years or so. I had numerous ultrasounds etc that would have picked up my lime sized tumour so they said that hormones fed it like gasoline to fire. I am not saying that the HPV vaccine is bad for everyone else. I'm only saying that my research leads me to believe that it is not studied or tested enough at this stage to warrant a free for all in vaccinating everyone.

HPV vaccine
I have read from a reliable resource, "Manual of Clinical Oncology", 70% of anal cancers show HPV DNA. Therefore, not all anal cancers are caused by the HPV. However, according to the cdc.gov web site, 17,600 women & 9300 men are affected by cancers caused by HPV. 180,000 women & 160,00 men arre affected by anal warts caused by HPV. I think that those stats are annual occurences. I know that the vaccine protects against other cancers, such as, oral, cervical, genital cancers. I think choosing the vaccine is a wise decision!

HPV
Hi. I am 5 years past treatment for stage 2 Anal Cancer. I have asked all of the doctors that i have seen whether they can tell what caused this, and whether I have HPV in my body now and they tell me that there is no real way to tell at this time. I have also asked whether I should have the vaccine now....and they told me it is too late. i am 64. I am divorced after finding out that my husband of 20 years had not been faithful to me during the marriage. So, I assume he transmitted HPV to me.
