Necrosis how to stop it

As my doctors were all trying to figure out what next to do about the Necrosis the hole was just getting bigger and bigger. My daughter was doing a little research about Oil pulling; I think Laralyn had a post about it last month. Coconut Oil Pulling and Raw Honey seams to be the cure for it, I even started using a little of the Coconut Oil in my NielMed sinus rinse to see if it will help with the infection. Well it is no help with the infection but the Necrosis stopped growing. I have an appointment with Dr. Anna Pou Wednesday in Baton Rouge, I am hopping they will be able to fix all the damage, for now all I can do is to pray.

    Thank you

Thank you for posting and thank your daughter for her research.  I guess I had better start the oil pulling, we've talked enough about it!

    Will keep the prayers coming

your way, Tim....I keep hearing more and more good things about Coconut Oil, and oil pulling.....I was doing it because it kept my mouth moist for a long time.  The Manuka honey mixed with it would be a double whammy!

    Ears perked but....

Still skeptical but surely keeping an open mind about this one. As long as this is not a substitute for a medically proven therapy, have at it and hope for the best. :-)

I am very much watching and following any ideas on how to slow down or stop the ugly necrosis.

last july they found active ORN on the lower right hand jaw bone, since then it has either stopped or slowed down very slow. doc's can not explain it and certainly thrilled.

last month it was noticed during a visit to dentist what appears to be start of ORN on the lower left side jaw bone. again we are watching closely. this also is progressing slow.

Tim, for sure praying what ever you do to stop the progression helps. thanks for keeping us up to date.

    So glad!

I still find the oil pulling to be kind of gross, but it has helped me with saliva issues and the dentist is amazed at how good my teeth and gums look.  I always say "it's not going to HURT to rinse with some coconut oil!"  I hope the damage can be repaired and the growth has completely stopped!!

    Dr. Anna Pou

Tim, wish you could have been connected with Anna much earlier during this journey.  She is the greatest, and literally saved my life during a period of time of many legal battles that she was going through.  Might want to Google her name and read up on an amazing person.  I've been seeing her from the onset of my treatment five years ago.  It's now every six months, and never mind having her doing the exams.  I'm sure she will help you in some capacity, and tell her Larry L. says "Hi".

    Necrosis and hyperbaric oxygen treatment

    Hey Tim:

Not sure where you're having problems with necrosis - usually relates to a breakdown in bone due to a compromised blood supply. Radiation treatment is usually the cause. Infections can certainly cause problems because of that compromised blood supply. You may be able to stop the infection - but I think the necrosis can be an ongoing problem and needs to be stopped.

Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) Treatment is highly recommended. I went thru it myself for necrosis of my basal skull where the tumor was located. Basically you're placed in a chamber and then pure oxygen is fed in under pressure. Treatments are about 90 minutes at time and depending on the nature of the necrosis, usually 40 treatments are the standard.

HBO is highly successful at stopping tissue breakdown since you are getting much needed nutrients to the affected area. There is some possibility of regrowth and even rebuilding of the blood supply.

This is an approved therapy and most likely covered by insurance.

Look into it as a possibility and also speak to your physician about it.

    Hope this helps.

    - Jeff

    Hi John

After seeing the hole growing and growing and my doctors at a standstill on what to do I knew I had to try something to stop it. I go to see the new ENT in Baton Rouge this morning and see what she is going to say, I am gust glad it stopped.

PS: I found an old post here on CSN that might also give some help with the ORN problem.

If nothing else try the raw honey and coconut oil, I am also using it to brush my teeth with at night. My daughter made me some toothpaste and so far it is not too bad at all. If you do the Oil Pulling at night remember do not rinse your mouth after to spit it all out, leave the oil in there and go to bed.

I hope you get some help and relief from it

I wonder about leaving honey in the mouth all night. Honey is basically sugar and we sure would not suck on candy or eat a candy bar and go to sleep. Did a short dive to get the science take and it seems you may want to reconsider using the honey. Jury still out on the coconut oil.-))

Yes, Dr. Pou is one of the six members of my medical team at MBP here in Baton Rouge.  Completed that every week....then three week....two month....four month (for 2 years) and now on a six month exam schedule.  Would like to go on a yearly schdule, but it's okay having fun with her students and interns.  We all feel so lucky to have such a facility and top notch professional care only 3-4 miles away.

    Hi Don

You are right, I did not think about the teeth so maybe cut out doing it at night. I do leave the oil coated in my mouth and teeth so all I can do there is to hope that will help protect them.

For now I can’t worry to much about what it will effect, if the necrosis don’t stop it will not matter much because it will all be gone anyway. So just glad I found something that is working for me to stop it.

    Thanks

    Hi Larry

I told her hello from all of you on here on CSN. You are correct she is a very good ENT she did the scoping and took pictures for me to take with me. She agrees no cancer but a lost of other problems that I need some help with. She is going to call my local ENT tomorrow and they will come up with a plan.

    Hi Jeff

I did 40 HBO treatments about 3 years ago and another 10 last year to pull a tooth. It does help the healing, so far none of the doctors are saying anything about more HBO treatment not sure why.

    Thanks

    HBO

"They" say that HBO doesn't work after 20 treatments.... I beg to differ. See if you can do it again. It helped Ruben, even when they thought it 'probably' wouldn't.
