In Memory of Fallen Pets...
As to many, our pets are more than just pets, more than anmals to us..., they are family.
We love them as we do our kids, family and friends...., they are family.
I'd like to honor our fallen pets with this post...
Ebony, my best buddy, the greatest friend...., I still miss her. I was honored to have her love me equally for 13+ years....
Gone, but never forgotten....

Love this idea, John...
My babies are just that....my "kids".....I lost MoJo in July 2012, in the middle of treatment.....He was only 8 years old, but his hips wouldn't carry him any further.....

This is bear. i held him for
This is bear. i held him for 2 and a half days before he passed. On the afternoon he passed, my husband and father were laying down carpet in my sons room and they called me up to see it. I was still cradeling my bear, i reluctantly put him down for just a moment, ran upstairs to acknowledge the work they were doing and ran back down. When I got back to the kitchen where he was..he had passed...without me. I was heartbroken. My father built him a beautiful velvet lined coffin and I wrapped him in my bathrobe. He was 15 years old and suffered with cancer of the mouth for almost a month (He was perfect before that dreaded month). He was a good man. I miss him still.

I know that feeling well....
Ebony passed before I could get home, but Shelley was home with her and holding her.... I was terribly heartbroken.
I have not felt that feeling other than one time, when I found out I had cancer.
With Ebony, the hurt was bad..., couldn't eat, hated coming home knowing she wasn't here...
The greatest thing she gave me are tons of awesome memories..., I still have those and always will.
Ebony set the standard for the two chocloate lab girls that have followed her into our hearts, kali and Jazzy...
But those two can't get away with anything, Ebony trained us well, LOL....

Duke(named after John Wayne, who else?) was our $5 swap meet German Shepherd, I believe. He was Ron's "truck dog". If there was a vehicle with an open door or trunk nearby, he was in & ready to go. I can still see him sitting behind Ron with his head on Ron's shoulder looking out the window as we traversed the country. He was lost to cancer & a heart attack & died in my son's arms as we rushed him to the emg. animal hospital.
When Duke was about 10, tiny MIckey(not for long) came into our lives via my son's "Look what I found down at the park, Mom!". It was a dirty, disheveled, tick infested, forlorn, coal black puppy who, through tons of love & care became Mickey, our Black Lab. Duke wasn't sure what to make of this little black thing following him around with his nose up his butt. They became life long friends. As Mickey grew older, he became my shadow from room to room. He & my very old cat became best buds. When he was 14, we had to let him go due to cancer. I tried to stay with him as he went to sleep, but just couldn't, so Ron & my son stayed. I looked over my shoulder for months afterward expecting him to be there.
Our last loss, of course was Robert's wonderful Brownie who we lost after a freak accident last summer. I've mentioned her story before.
Each of them were like my children, but with a lot more fur.
Luv,
Wolfen

Duggie
This is our Duggie (yes I stoled his name for CSN) we had to put him down when he was 14 years old and a few days after I finished radiation. Kate said he hung in to make sure I made it through my treatments. I thought he was the greatest dog I ever had. Now we have dumpster diving Kasie a 120 pound yellow lab, we got him the night before my first PET Scan June of 2010. I still miss the hell out of Duggie.
Thanks for starting this John...............now I need a kleenex.

Bubba Dawg
My sweet boy had a tumor in his belly that no one knew about. Early December it ruptured and he was gone in just a few hours. He helped me heal and got me through a very rough time. I miss him and will love him forever. Cancer sucks.

I found this old pic
of all my "babies".....well not all mine....the mini Poodle was my sister's dog....and I inherited the Westie from my mom. RubyAnne, the Rottie/Pit/Lab we got at the pound was about 13 here (as was the Westie, Molly), Ted the Poodle was a whopping 17 years old....Moj was just a whipper-snapper, about 2 years old. All of them gone now....I miss them all!

awesome! i think many of us say no more pets and then decide we are too lonely without them. i think pound/shelter dogs are the best. this is very good reading and i wish everyone would read it and get their next pet from a shelter. if i have another dog after this one, it will come from there.
thanks for posting, it really makes one think.

This is Honey. My very first
This is Honey. My very first dog. I got her at the pound. She was only 8 months old. She was in the cage all by herself and very scared. I didn't want a dog and wasn't looking for one when I saw her but she pulled at my heart strings being so small and all alone. I ended up taking her home and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. She was the BEST dog. She wasn't good with other dogs (faught with them) but she was awesome with kids. She watched over and protected my first grandchild like she was her mother. It was really cute, she used to lay right under her bed while she slept. This pic was from 2005. We had to put her down due to a brain tumor in 2007. I still miss her very much today.

It Still Hurts
This is Hunter (Ch. Ginge Special Instinct, CD, JH). She was my first dog as an adult. For 14 years she was my best friend. I've had other dogs since, and a great one now, but every time I see her picture I mist up. She died doing what she loved, hunting in a field. Her heart burst.
