6-month checkup / NED 3.5 yrs
I'm good for another 6 months...yeah! Have a checkup with oncologist every 6 months and we generally follow the CA125 marker, as fairly reliable for me. Been 2 years since my last CT scan, doc thought lets do one since I've got a small cyst on my liver (non suspecious), but like to watch for any size changes. All is fine, although my CA125 went up from 5 to 11 and CT was all great except some minor non-suspicious hazing on right lung. This will be watched but doc felt since I've been sick with cold and stomach upset, any inflammation can cause the inflated marker plus spot on lung being inflammed.
Started my journey in Jan. 09. diagnosed 3C MMMT, cancer found in 1 lymph node; completed treatments (6 carbo/taxol), 33 sessions of pelvic external radiation. Thankfully NED every since the start of this journey!! I've learned to keep my immune system strong with new ways of eating with all natural/organic fruits-veggies, all grass-fed/organic meats and dairy, daily exercise & yoga, simply taking time to enjoy each and every day....plus lots of prayers. No golden rule for keeping this cancer away, but feel best when I keep my body strong.
Thanks to all my CSN sisters who've been my rock...always here for me and continually giving me support!!
Hugs,
Jan

Hurray
So happy for you and the hope it gives me for my future. I'm going to start a meditation class next Wed. I hope my hamster brain cooperates. Now I'moff for my walk. It's close to 0 here and a tad windy so I'll need my winter silks and wind pants but know it'll make me feel good. At least the sun is shining- nice illusion!

Hey Jan!
Really glad to hear your great news. It does give hope to all of us going through this...especially the newly diagnosed and scared. I am also impressed with how many ladies are able to make the necessary dietary and lifestyle changes in order to recover. I hope I have half the motivation to turn things around!
This should be a great weekend for you. Enjoy!

Hi Jan:
Congratulations on remaining NED! You must be extremely happy! You have a very positive attitude which is So Important in fighting the cancer that you had and also that you changed your diet and eating habits for the better. You have to be so relieved as well. I wish you the best outcome for the future. I am curious though what type of meats and dairy are you eating on a daily basis? You mentioned it was organic. It is very encouraging to hear that you remain cancer free.
I have substituted olive oil on my garlic bread instead of butter and I do watch what I eat. My son who is 18 lost well over 100 lbs in the last 4 years. He does a lot of cycling and has logged well over 1,500 miles on his bike since he started in May of 2009. He also watches what he eats. He now weighs around 150 lbs. and is 6 feet 1 inches tall. He looks great and is very healthy. Before he lost all this weight, he was obese and drank a lot of soda. He has not had any soda in nearly 4 years which is wonderful and he does not miss at all drinking soda.
I am 15 months out from ending my UPSC treatments. I go back in the spring for my 6 month checkup. I received my UPSC diagnosis in February of 2011 so it will be 2 years next month. I just hope that I can remain NED forever as well. I had Stage 1 of UPSC when I was diagnosed. My oncologist told me he felt I would survive the cancer based on the histology of the cells, my age at the time of diagnosis which was 59 and also my good medical history after I was diagnosed. That was so comforting for me to hear those words. My cancer was basically a large polyp about 5 centimeters and it was contained in the uterus. It was a very scary diagnosis that I received. At first, I did not know if I would live or die. I never heard of this type of rare cancer so I immediately went home and looked up information regarding UPSC on the Internet. My oncologist recommended very aggressive cancer treatment which is considered standard treatment of carboplatin and taxol 6 rounds of it along with 3 rounds of radiation. So I went through everything as I know how aggressive this cancer is and knowing that it could reoccur and I wanted to do everything I could to prevent the cancer from returning so I went through the chemo. I made out well with it although my platelets got low near the end of my treatments and I had to go through a blood transfusion and Neulasta shot, plus I was so weakened by going through chemo. I also immediately went out and bought a wig as I knew I would lose my hair from what my oncologist had mentioned to me. My oncologist is nationally known throughout the country and is considered one of the top doctors and he has many years of experience. My gynecologist recommended my oncologist to me.
It took awhile for me to recuperate from all the treatments at least about 6 to 9 months later I started to feel better. I still remain tired though especially by the end of the week, but each month I continue to feel stronger.
Again, congratulations on your great news remaining NED. Continued good wishes for the future!
Also, the women on this board are all so supporting and extremely caring.
All the Best,

All the Best,
CheerfulYou ladies are the best!!! This journey is not easy, but sure helps with good friends who understand and are there by my side. Not like my husband and daughter understand, as to why I come here...you all truly understand!!!
If nothing else, today I feel at ease and happy to continue on with what I'm doing to keep my system strong. Not an easy feat, but when one works hard and gets good results, it's simply rewarding. Now who knows after the next 6 months, but lets not go there. Time to enjoy the moment!!!
Love to you all~
