Unknown Primary Can it be found?
I am happy to say I am a Survivor, and have been NED for almost 1 year. I am playing catch-up on doctor visits, and going for a Upper EGD scope tomorrow. I have had an ulcer for years, and it only began to act up when my Ex starting acting up over the holiday. Coincidence?
I think not! Anyway, besides the normal anxiety of the dreaded scheduled PET in January,
I dread these tests thinking that they will find something else. I mean, either it spread,or it is the cause.
I guess my question is "Do they EVER actually find the primary in these cases."
I'm just asking.
Thanks for all your posts, laughs, and info. At this point I have been poked, prodded, and needled. All that's left for me to feel totally humiliated is - to go thru an airport security check point! Hee hee! =O
Staying strong,
Patty (still not fatty)

Hi Patty
Based on things my doctor has said I'd think the primary would have presented after so much time. So I think you can feel pretty confident that the primary was blasted away into oblivion.
Having said that, scans and waiting for results are never easy so I'll be praying for the best!

Here's my opinion Patty Girl.....
Your EX was that primary, and you got rid of his azz, so I think your scans are going to be good to go.
Thoughts and Prayers,
John
Joel expressed my opinion on the Primary. Never found mine, either, and my ENT told me they never would, because it's gone.
As for John's opinion, one must remember that he never had a PEG, so his opinion is somewhat, uh, fishy...though in the end he's probably correct about your EX, as I figure the odds are with him that he's gotta be right about something (LOL!!!). Reckon he'll be right about your scans, too, but don't tell him I said that.

Yes! You already got rid of that nasty arse primary!
I agree with John! Maybe jerk face was my primary, too, and that is why they never found mine. I'm going with that.0 -
Primarily Staying Strong
Hi Patty, you've always stayed strong, and the wind has sometimes blown around you on your walk. Joel is correct. The idea is to remain free of cancer. Good for you for getting back on track with tests. Dreading them a bit is part of the test. So far I haven't had much anxiety with upcoming scans or endoscopies. I try not to be a part of the process any more than I have to, can't change anything in the days leading up to one anyway. I think it's going to go fine for you.
best, Hal0 -
Hi Patty
Hoping that all will go well for you in your check-up and don’t let the Ex get your ulcer inflamed he is just know worth it. My doctors never did find the primary and that has been right at 9 years now, so I guess they treated what they could see it took out the primary as well. I was at the Houston Air Port a few months ago and went through the new security checks where they look at you with the new x-ray machine. So I spread my legs and put my arms wide open and told them here I am take a good look boys. Oh well I said what is left for anyone to see. :+})
Take care and keeping you in prayer for you next PET

CAN UNDERSTAND THE NOT KNOWING
Patty, waiting and or not knowing just plain sucks, but somehow we need to come up with a plan to keep pushing forward.
Best of luck with the upcoming Dr. visit and PET in January.
It will all work out, as you already have the big first year NED behind you.

I had the same, they could not find the primary almost 16 years ago. Then they said that's ok seems like most with unknown primary get better results.
They can't find anything... keep having fun!

Hi Patty
John is right on about getting better results. Statistically unknown primaries have a slightly better prognosis than known primaries. I don't really understand why but it seems you are on the right side of the mathematicians. It's long gone by now and your scan will be fine!0 -

I do dread the tests, but do not have the anxiety I used to have with the impending PET scan.
I know it has to be done, and accept it. Thanks for the kind words. One thing I wish I could take home with me is a bottle of the anesthesia the use! What a great sleep!
So I will go with confidence Hal. God bless you!

I knew you all would come through! My mind is put at ease as I have been waiting for a Doctor to do a test, and call me with an "AHA" moment! It has been haunting me for years! Whew! Now I can put that worry behind me, along with my Ex! Thanks, it really is comforting.
Hondo - I can picture you now at the airport security! Ha ha ha!
fisrpotpe 16 years! wow! I did not realize people with unknown primary get better results! That is so good to hear!
I will get thru these tests, with no worries, thanks to all my CSN family.
