Mask Question

I know I've read that a lot of you couldn't wait to get rid of the mask as a reminder..but I have been trying to explain to my neice what one looks like, did any of you take a picture or have a picture I can share with her.

Thanks,

Linda

    Mask

I have a pic of my mask. Before I started radiation I wanted to keep my mask. After radiation I never wanted to be reminded of what the experience was like. Yes I have a picture of it.

I remembered this from an earlier thread.

Go there and follow the pictures. My mask was like this and not like the one on Wikipedia which is giant.

btw, I had no problems and often fell asleep or just zoned out. If not, following the machine through its paces and knowing where we were was always interesting. I hope yours is easy as well. Doug

I did treatment twice and still have both of my masks, don’t know why I keep them, I guess as a reminder of what hell will be like.

I hate my mask. The thought of it makes me start to feel anxious.

    Still have mine
It hangs out in the corner of our bedroom. Mine was the large variety...over the shoulders too. I don't mind having it around at all. When friends ask, I can show them what it looks like etc. I also look at it and think "that thing helped save my life" thank you.

    Best to all here...

    My Dad's Mask
My Dad just finished 35 radiation treatments for base of tongue stage 2 squamous cancer. Towards the end of the treatments his mask rubbed his neck raw and was very painful for him. He said he wants to take his mask to a shooting range and shoot it full of holes with a gun - tee hee - but he has not done this yet.

    Hi Staceya

Looks like they did a full body harness on you; all I did was just a small mast. I thinking of using it for Halloween

Stacey, that is what my mask looks like. They did have to cut out eye holes for me. Mine came a tad bit, but not much, lower in my chest.

Yep! I still have mine. I
Yep! I still have mine. I even took it when I moved. I have no idea why.
Hmmmmm.... Maybe it reminds me, if I could get thru that experience, I can do anything, and I am a whole lot stronger then I was before I started that journey. I thank God!

    I plan on keeping mine...
73% done today! They told me I could keep mine after it is all done. Not sure why, but I plan on it. I think for the same reason Patty did. It may suck getting there, but wow what a blessing it is to have this technology to make us better again!

    CT
I had my first CT and simulation at the rad office tonight. Tech was telling me how mask was made and I was close to tears, but the tech was great and walked me thru everything. He even let my neice stay with me until the CT scan started, she took pics for the east coast family to see, and then let her stay in the observation room watching the screens with him. All in all at this point I can say the mask and the CT session wasn't bad, they however won't make any cut outs in the mask, the nose/mouth breathing wasn't difficult, nor will they allow my music as they want to be able to hear anything I may say :(. The total time was around 15 mins, they tell me the actual treatment will be 10 mins or less. what I kept in my mind was my grandaughter singing you are my sun shine when she was around 3, she's now 6. I'll let you know how I feel about the mask and process after say the first 15 sessions, Iwill have a total of 39. I go for a test run on Oct 31 (happy halloween, all I'll need is a costume), with the first actual treatment starting on Nov 1 and ending Dec 29th. Time off for good behavior. What suprised me most, was that this rad center starts at 6:15 am and they work until 10:pm, guess it's to accomadate as many schedules as they can.

    No music!
That sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are the first person, I think, that had said they cannot have music. I was supposed to raise my hand if I had a problem.

As far as them cutting out the eye holes, they had no choice. The mask was so tight on my face that it left the waffle marks, but on my eye bones, not only did it leave the waffle marks, but it bruised me and broke capillaries or something on my eyes, it was that tight. I went home with the worst migraine that day, and my eyes were immediately bruised. I bruise like fruit, right away, because of my anemia. If you grab my arm to hard, you will leave a hand print. No lie.

    Hi Linda
Just keep in mind your granddaughters song that “you are her sunshine” while in treatment and the time and treatments will all soon be a thing to remember.
