More Vitamins
I take Vitamin B-12 and Vitamin D in addition to my multi-vitamin and calcium. My internist has recently suggested adding fish oil to my list but I haven't bought that just yet.

I take a Super B Complex
I take a Super B Complex pill, a Vit. D pill , and a mega dose Potassium (K) pill in addition to calcium with D. It's a year and a half since last Taxol but I still have big issues with keeping my Potassium levels up in even the low normal range.

I take 1600 mg calcium; 2000
I take 1600 mg calcium; 2000 mg vitamin D; 2000 mg of B-12--I have osteoporosis and I started the first two for that. I had a B-12 deficiency so I started that one. I don't know if any of these actually help, but everytime I did my blood work the doctor would tell me it all looked great.

Vitamins
Haven't come across a vitamin I didn't like, or take.... Out of the list the Oncologist ok'd a multi-vitamin, 1000 mg Calcium with Vit. D, 2 fish oil capsules, CoQ10 (for the heart)and when Neuropathy started he added 1000 mg Folic Acid (prescription strength), B-Complex and 400 mg Magnesium, which I had to discontinue because I got awful diarrhoe. He laughted when I told him I also take Cinnamon for blood sugar control and we decided I could do without!

Fish Oil, Vitamin D and
Fish Oil, Vitamin D and Chondroitin/Glucosamine. I also take a cranberry pill for prevention of UTI's, but it is not a vitamin. I'm not sure the chondroitin/glucosamine does any good, but I take it anyway ;-)0 -

ok this is a stupid question but I dont completely understand why its not ok to take vitamins during treatment, but its ok after even though we may have rogue cancer cells in there?0 -

Carkris, no question is stupid. I wouldn't know this except my rads oncologist explained it very clearly to me. You aren't supposed to take any vitamins during treatment, mine was rads, because vitamins feed your cells and you don't want your cells, good and bad, to be strong and healthy. You want them as weak as possible so that your treatment can kill them. I hope this explains it better.
And, where do you buy cranberry pills? I never knew they existed. I just drink the juice sometimes.

I saw them at Walmart the other day. Also at Wal-greens, but check your Walmart first. They are cheaper usually. You can also buy such things on the internet if going out is a problem.0 -

The way it was explained to me is that some Vitamins/minerals are anti-oxidants and anti-oxidants will "fight with"/prevent the chemo from doing all it can. Both my Chemo Dr and Rads Dr approved the ones (Super B Complex, D, Calcium and Potassium) I took but would not approve a multi Vitamin/Mineral pill. He didn't explain it quite that simplistic but it was close. I didn't do Herceptin so don't know how they wok with it.

I have been taking pre-natal
I have been taking pre-natal vitamins for years - for some reason they're the only multi vitamins that I've ever taken that haven't made me nauseous!
Per my oncologist's advice, i recently added a vitamin E (400 IU) daily - she told me that it may help with my hot flashes - and it IS working!!!
*hugs*

I take an aspirin, a multi vitamin, vitamin C and D every day.
The multi vitamins kind of upset my stomach. I might try the pre natal ones. Thanks Heather for that tip.
