Thank youbuzz99 said:MRI clear
It is great to hear that the MRI was clear. I imagine the waiting for the surgery is very difficult. Congrats on the smoking cessation! If you do have cancer, it is likely that you are catching it early and that makes all the difference. Let us know how your biopsies turn out. Karen
Cheers Guys,
The Consultant did say MRI's aren't always 100% with early cases, hence the surgery to be 100% sure. She did also say if the biopsy shows anything up it would be early which is the best anyone can hope for I guess when faced with this.
I am remaining positive that all will be well and the biopsy will be clear :-) and if it is clear at least the surgery will get rid of this sore throat.......once I'm healed ;-) It will also help with the "no smoking" as I'm sure that will be the last thing on my mind ha ha!!! Nearly 4 weeks now without one and it is getting easier :-)
Just wondered if anyone has had a clean MRI and then the biopsy has found something??
Thanks xx0 -

Nothing (treament wise) is 100%....
More than likely they are going to do both of your tonsils, just might need to take more out on the suspect side (at least that's how it went for me).
It is pretty painful, but sure you can manage....not as easy as eating a lot of ice cream like people think. I couldn't tolerate anything cold actually.
The pain didn't really set in for a few days, but they'll give you pain meds in solution form probably. It only lasted for 10 days or so....much better than 7 - 10 weeks of treatment/recovery from rads. Though on a pain level, nearly the same, just much shorter.
Mainly a lot of soft mashed spuds and gravy, soupy cheese grits or cream of wheat, pudding and jello...
Thoughts and Prayers that all is good to go and least as invasive as possible.
Best,
John
Thanks Skiffin
I am the sort of person that likes to know what I'm faced with then I can get my head around it and know I can deal with it!!
You are right people think a tonsillectomy is a walk in the park and I guess like most things don't understand unless they have had it done themselves.
Strangely they aren't going to take the right tonsil - I did double check and they said no as it is only the left one which is problematic. Also the biopsy is BOT and Post Nasal Space - which I assume is due to glands on Adenoids?!
Mashed spuds and gravey is my fav so sounds like that's gonna be a bonus. Plus taking this as free reign to eat, eat, eat :-D
Did you have your scan first??
Thanks again for the positive wishes xx0 -

I had a CT before anything, that pretty much confirmed cancer in the left tonsil, that was on a Friday. The next Monday the tonsils came out....STG SCC and eventually HPV+.
Then I had the port put in a few weeks later. After that the nine weeks of chemo, then seven weeks of concurrent chemo/rads.

Congrats on ditching the smokes. I remember how hard it was for me to quit (about 9 years ago).
Glad to see MRI was clear - sorry you have to endure tonsillectomy and biopsies. To be honest, I'd rather go through the surgery, then find out it was nothing than not do it, and find out later it WAS something. I had just one tonsil taken, along with open biopsies on tongue and in throat. I'd heard it was very hard on adults, but thought I'd have a less hard time than most, since I have a high pain threshold. I have to say, the pain and discomfort level was high for a while. I was very strict with myself about taking pain meds and drinking water. I kept a kitchen timer by me to let me know when my water bottle should be empty or half empty, and kept alarms set for med times. I know that forcing myself to drink really helped me. Hope you can keep bringing us good news.0 -

Tonsil cancerYoungMummy said:Thank you everyone :-)
Hi everyone
Thank you so much for your replies - and no offense taken Hondo - it is an obvious thing to say and I keep beating myself up over why I do it?! It is such a badly addictive habit and although I have tried many times to stop this is definitely the kick up the backside I need whatever the outcome!!
I don't live in the US but this board seems so informative I thought I would ask you guys if this is purely paranoia or should I really push this - which my instinct is telling me to. I am in the UK so our processes are different due to the NHS and it's financial restrictions. They tend to try and eliminate every possible cause before looking toward the worst case scenario. Am considering paying for a private scan!?
Anyway thanks again and hopefully this will all turn out to be something and nothing - fingers and toes crossed :-)
I will keep you posted once I finally get some sort of diagnosis!
Best wishes to you all xxI too am in uk, I have swollen lymphs on right side for 6 weeks now, hole in my right tonsil, recurrent infections in the throat and have a small lump on left tonsil now, had throat swabs taken which I was supposed to get results of in 24 hrs, a week on and still waiting. Got my bloods back though and they said satisfactoru(hate it when they say that) got a constant fever and always tired, my grandad managed to beat throat cancer so hopefully if it's z bad result then I can fight it as good as him, God im scared and don't want to stress out my nearest and dearest by telling them I'm thinking the worst but I can't help thinking that way. I've been on Google too much and keep looking at images of early stage tonsil cancer and comparing it to my throat, too similar for comfort. Such a scary time hope it's over soon and they finally give me some answers
