CT scan yesterday

in Ovarian Cancer #1
My wife got a ct scan of her abdomen and pelvic yesterday that showed a mass in her one of her ovaries plus what looked like a partially collapsed lung in an xray of her lungs...The doctor has ordered another ct scan of her lung and an ultrasound....We are not sure it is ovarian cancer yet but is it normal for this type of cancer to cause a lung to partially collapse...We are not sure what stage if any this is in....My wife 's only symptoms are she has lost 40 pounds in about 6 months but she was on a diet...she has not bloated up has no pelvic pain and the only other symptom she has is fatigue which we think is being caused by anemia...I am very confused...Can anyone here shed a little light on the steps in furthering this diagnosis...We do not have insurance so all these tests are coming out of pocket...

    Welcome to this discussion board; I don't know how you are going to manage your wife's health care without insurance--so sorry that you are in this position.

    Unfortunately, there is no blood test, x-ray, CT scan, MRI or ultrasound test that can tell you if your wife has cancer or not. Sometimes the x-ray doesn't show cancer of the lung--need to have a special CT scan to find that. It looks likely that your wife will be facing surgery.

    The cancer diagnosis was pronounced on me about 7 months after I intentionally lost 35 pounds. I have heard other women comment that they intentionally lost weight THEN were dealing with ovarian cancer. I have wondered whether the estrogen from the fat played a part in disrupting the cells.

    Best wishes...please keep us posted. We would love to hear that it is nothing more than a spontaneous pneumothorax and benign ovarian cyst.

    Maybe you can find a free clinic in your area that will run a blood test for CA-125...but I agree, your wife may still need surgery.
