Sorry to hear that
I had just had my port placed and on the second round of chemo, it had developed a clot. Had to be admitted, they removed my port and was placed on Levinox blood thinners.I had the same symptoms that you did. My oncologist said this is common in cancer patients. Then I oppted not to have it replace. so I got a picc on my right arm. Place on coumadin thru the whole treatment. and this went well. It lasted 5 months. Had my liver resection and then they placed it on my right chest wall but I had power port placed in radiology. It has been going well, I've had it for 4 months now. I try to be extra careful with it. It hangs out on my above my right breast area. My oncologist recommended I take a baby aspirin daily and this has been doing the trick. Good Luck, blessing Lourdes.0 -
blood clots
Hi, blood clots can be common after the port is put in. My clot happened in my upper left arm around the tricep area. This started probably after my 3rd round of folfox. I was pretty much bed ridden due to my deminshed health following surgery. The oncologist put me on coumadin and had to inject myself with lovenox for 2 weeks. It broke he clot up and I stayed on coumadin for 6 months. I never had a problem with clots since, that was 4 yrs. ago. I eventually had that port removed because it totally plugged up, but at the time I was cancer free(about 9 months). The cancer came back in my abdominal lymph nodes and had to have another port(titanium not plastic) put in on the right side. I've been on chemo ever since so the port will probably stay with me always. This one works much better, I kinda like it on the right side better than the left for some reason. Anyway, I pray that your condition will improve and I know you will get through this, it's what cancer survivors do, we must not ever give up. God Bless, Randy0 -

It was the blood clots in my lungs that made me go to emerg. in the first place.....had trouble breathing going up the stairs at home, that's when the cancer was diagnosed....the disease itself can cause blood clots according to my doctors. I've been on Lovenox ever since getting a shot every day in my belly, (hate it)!!!! When I was in hospt. had a PICC line, one day it was swollen and they said you can even develop blood clots around the area of the PICC line, this wasn't the case for me they put me on antibiotics and it disappeared so it was basically just starting to get inflamed I suppose but went away. Hope you're feeling better.0 -
