Love hearing from you William & Loretta!
I know---that first "news" of esophageal cancer...downright frightening. My dad still can't SAY or spell "E S O P H A G E A L". I just found out he has to stay in the hospital a little longer as air is leaking through the healing lung. Dr said this was expected as he had scar tissue from an old surgery. I have so many different prayers for him & my mom right now.
Anyway---it is not too late to try to get your state to declare April 2011 EC Awareness Month.
My state, KY did it last year---and right now they said that it should go through this year, but they are working on their March proclamations right now. ECAN has told me that they will send news releases if we want to actually publicize these proclamations. I admit, I did not publicize it last year--did not really know how. I will send you a private email--I hope I have the right one.
thanks again for continuing to share your survivor story to all newbies.

Dearest Kim and your dad. So nice to see you posting again! Miss you. I tried to do this last year, but never heard a thing back. Maybe with William and I both being from Virginia will help. I will try again this year as well. Praying for you mom and dad. Hugs to all. Send me the info I need again, please

Tina-My news with my dad has been really good and sometimes I feel guilty posting it over & over. But now he is in the hospital recovering from a second surgery and has had a minor complication. He is getting very bored & is still awaiting a definite pathology report. Honestly, I think he would forgo the report if he could just go home.
I made an error---i kept thinking that William was in PA as that is where he had surgery!---So, you & him do not need to pursue EC Awareness Month in VA---IT HAS ALREADY BEEN PROCLAIMED!
ECAN has offered to send press releases & PSAs that we can share with local TV & radio stations in each state that is proclaimed during April 2011. I am glad because Mindy (from ECAN has a background as a TV anchor---I work in healthcare & this is not my strength. With all the EC community working together we can make a difference. The pancreatic cancer group has gotten very active & now people are listening---hopefully--this may be us (EC patients & families) next year!

you're very welcome!
dad's---just can't sit still! He keeps asking my mom--"what's our next project in the barn?"--he is always fixing things... He works at the local Church Thrift shop as a volunteer and "fixes" donations worth fixing. I am about ready to mail him something to fix---even if I have to break it myself! It's only been 6 days in the hospital...
love ya Tina in VA! (glad you clarified awhile ago)---I was getting confused with all our Tina's

Hi Kim,
I have been under the weather these past 2 wks but am better now. I just sent my request to Governor O'Malley about EC Awareness month. He declared it last year and I was given the impression it had been done before. I was sent a giant proclamation in the mail declaring it. I also just wrote to a local TV station and am trying to get them to do a story on EC for the month of April. I already wrote to Dr. Oz for April too. So lets hope they get something done. I am not a typical case so I just hope they interview my drs and let them tell the people out there that there is an increase in this type of cancer and unfortunately it is among much younger people. A friend told me that a local talk radio show had someone on yesterday giving much information about it but she did not give current statistics or what we know now as a much higher survival rate for even Stage III people. take care,
