It sounds like your doctor knows what he's doing, and your husband is doing well. There is alot of stage iv survivers here, and I'm sure you will hear from them.Radiation worked very well for me,but I did get sick, cramps, etc.Good luck,it sounds like your husband is in good hands.0 -

Welcome to the board and sorry to hear of your husband's diagnosis. Your husband is right this will take some time to get through but its just a process of steps and getting through one to get to another. Glad that your husband did well with the surgery. Good luck with the oncologist.

Hi Kim! He has had a great positive attitude from the beginning, i get all antzy about things & he told me one time that you cannot rush this! i guess hes right, but the quicker we get those tumors out the better i will feel. i His primary is in his colorectal area & we just had liver surgery to remove 8 lesions & the dr had to do an ablation on 1 tumor bc it was so close to his middle hepatic vein. so hopefully that will take care of his liver tumors. now onto the colon one. I like being able to read the stories & the support everyone shares.0 -
Welcome
Hi Jennifer and husband. So glad you have a doc that seems well informed and that you like. That is a big part of the treatment process.
Happy to hear that he is doing so well since surgery.
As things come up feel free to ask about anything. You will find helpful folks here who probably have similar experience.
Hoping that 2011 brings good things for you both.

Welcome to the site and to
Welcome to the site and to the "family" here. My husband was also diagnosed with stage IV a little over a year ago and has had chemo, radiation, heart surgery, colon surgery, liver resection and is currently getting more chemo. You would never know it to look at him that he has been through so much. You'll have triumphs and setbacks, and the folks here will celebrate with you over your triumphs and cry with you over the setbacks and they will guide you with advise and lots of years of collective wisdom. Oh, and they will make you laugh too. Something you're going to need and never would expect to get so much of in a place like this. So hang in there Jennifer. It sounds like your husband is pretty laid back and positive guy. We're here for you.
(hugs)

May 2010 was bad for us too!
Hi Jennifer - My husband, Jimmy, was dx with stage IV colon cancer on 5/10/10. He had a cancerous polyp removed 5 yrs ago and we're not sure if it was completely resected or if it reseeded, but the tumor is outside of the colon with 1 lesion on the liver. Surgery is not an option at this time as the tumor is too close to the super mesentaric artery of the abdomen. He was put on Folfox in July 2010. The CT in Oct showed a decrease in the liver mass but the tumor grew slightly so he was put on Avastin. His last CT in Dec showed no change in either tumor. We went to Sloan last week for a second opinion but they said everything is being done correctly.
Jimmy's sister died of melanoma in April when we came back from her funeral he experienced some abdominal cramping. We went to an urgentcare and they order a ct at my request. I was the ct tech who did the exam and found the met to the liver and tumor by his pancreas. Thank God it is not pancreatic.
At first I could not confront the disease at all, because being in healthcare I knew what we were facing and how serious it was. I wouldn't even look at another test or read a report. My whole demeaner changed and I wasn't the same person, although Jimmy was taking everything in stride. Then one day I said the prayer to St. Michael the archangel and I asked him to help me fight this terrible monster that was in my husbands body and I wasn't going to let this disease ruin nor control our life. I do look at his ct's etc and read the reports and I am no longer afraid of this cancer. I put my trust in God and pray that he will direct us to proper treatment, and healing.
God Bless you and your husband and stay in touch.

And now after Chemo, Radiation, APR surgery and chemo now again I am on the home strech to recovery. Welcome to the survivors site that has helped me so much in the last few months. I only started paying attention here after my surgery 3 months ago but wish I chimed in a little sooner. I am happy you finally spoke up and will keep you both in my prayers.

Gday and welcome from across the seas
We are not only multi -cultural here we are multi national. Sorry you have to be here but given the circumstances there is no better place to be. I was operated in in Jan 98 for stage 3 colon ca into six nodes, did a year of chemo and have been ca free ever since. Just approaching the end of year 13 then into 14 . 13 was a nervous year but I had a scope in nov and won't need another for three years. By best wishes for a swift resolution to your problem and a long and ca free life.Ron.0 -
