    Good for you!
The last straw for me was when I sat down to eat dinner and hair was falling off my head onto my plate -- ewwww!

It felt SO much better to just get rid of the hair and move on -- and yes, I too used it as an excuse to go a little crazy buying cute hats and scarves. Might as well have some fun with it, no?

    How long did it take
How long did it take from the time your hair started falling out till you shaved it? I've already bought a wig and some hats and scarves. I'm really not looking forward to this, but I'm happy that you are feeling better about it. I just know you are gonna rock those cute hats and scarves :)

    Congrats on your Baldness!
I had my husband shave my hair, after I clogged the tub and my scalp also hurt!
It felt a whole lot better and it is fun to get scarfs, hats wigs.

    @ TexasGirl
    Generally, we

    @ TexasGirl
Generally, we start losing our hair around the 2nd chemo...and often times our scalp starts aching. Feels like a rubber band in a too tight pony tail. And, for the record, because I simply never put 2 and 2 together, just know that yup, ANYWHERE you have hair, you won't! That was a major shock to me~ sure wish I had known! LOL

Thanks Chenheart for the information. I keep thinking that I'm going to be bald on Christmas. I don't know why that is bothering me so much, but it really is. I don't think I'm gonna be one of the ladies that will "rock" my baldness. I'm very upset about it. That and losing my breast. I know that just sounds so vain, and I honestly am not a vain person but it's really bothering me. I'm pretty sure I won't miss the shaving my legs part though lol

    I wouldn't be surprised to
I wouldn't be surprised to find out that 99 out of 100 of us hated losing our hair! It makes us a human billboard screaming Cancer! Chemo! Only thing missing are the lights and sirens! What did help me was this: Stepping outside of my own misery ( and I for the record am indeed vain) and realizing how I felt when I saw women in the tell-tale bandanas. I never felt afraid, disgusted, or that they were contagious! Quite the contrary, I knew they were Kindred Spirits and I have made it a habit of approaching these sisters, telling them I used to have that EXACT hairstyle, and give them a quick hug! It works miracles! I did this in an upscale gourmet restaurant a few weeks ago~ the woman was so touched...she said she didn't ever know what to do for other women obviously going throu chemo, but my hug and acknowledgement let her know how to handle it! I have an idea she is hugging other Kindred Spirits now!

    Hugs,
    Chen♥

like most women, i thought losing my hair would be the worst!
much to my surprise, once the hair was gone, it was just gone. yes, there are some times that i really miss my long red hair, but now i realize it was only hair. i am lucky to be alive and that is more important than the hair!!!

I tend to go back and forward .. regarding my hair
loss... some days I was fine, really okay with it .. while others (emotional times), I cried! Being bald reminded me of what I was really fighting .. there were no questions, or doubts - I was fighting 'Breast Cancer' in fact, at times I wish I could spray paint ------. 'Fighting for my Life' .. across my scalp -- this would of helped my family and friends during my down days -- not to expect too much from me. Just me.

The funny things I found was when I was tired and layed back against my leather sofa in the den that I realized how much our hair protected us against the inside and outside elements of life.

    Cold Head
I went through last winter bald so I feel your cold. I didn't want a wig and have always hated the feel of hats so I did bandanas. To keep me warm I went to the fabric store and made fleese bandanas. Cut a square 22"x22", then cut diagonally so you end up with a triange. Tie them like a bandana. These are so soft and comfy. I even wore them to bed.

    Hope this helps

I had my hairdresser shave my head 15 days after 1st chemo. As the months went by some spots on my head got bald and other spots the hair grew to about an inch and is white. So, now I look like a mad scientist! I would rather be totally bald :-)

    Luckily, I didn't have
Luckily, I didn't have chemo, so, I didn't experience losing my hair. I am glad that your hubby and your 4 year old helped you to shave it. It seems that our sisters on here feel so much better once that is over.

Wear your scarves and hats proud! You are a true survivor!

    way to go
I hope you find cute hats, scarfs etc...

    I'm with you
On day 14 of chemo ... when I ran my fingers through my hair and ended up with a fist full of hair ... and had a friend shave my head ... it was a HUGE relief. Even though I looked like my grandfather (REALLY!) ... it was a relief to know that "it" had finally happened and I might as well get used to it ... and I did. I didn't like the feel of wigs and never could get those pretty scarves tied right ... so I just lived in my denim bucket hat from TLC catalog ... and loved it. I got so used to not doing my hair ... since I didn't have any ... that I've kept it really short since. Just jump out of the shower ... towel dry ... and I'm ready to go.

Keep that positive attitude. There are so many milestones in this cancer adventure ... that you need that positive attitude ... and we just have to keep going forward on the journey.

    hugs.

    @Texasgirl..
    Texasgirl -
Losing my hair was harder for me than losing my breasts. Im 35 with 2 young daughters & it was really hard. I haven't been a baldness "rocker" throughout my chemo - at home I go topless, and just my family & 2 best friends have seen me bald. I think every day since we shaved my head I've said "I miss my hair". It sucks & it's makes you really cold (at least here in Indiana, brrrr). You just do what you can to deal with it. I bought cute beanie type stocking hats, a few designer scarves, and wear LOTS of extra make up when I go out. Whatever little things you can do so you still feel good about yourself. It is temporary, and it does grow back, I'm a month past chemo & have a full "5 o'clock shadow" on my head, as my husband says. When it comes back it comes back fast, I can literally tell every day that it's growing.
And the not shaving your legs and armpits is awesome!
    *hugs*

    I'm glad you're doing well
I'm glad you're doing well with shaving your head. You're right, it does feel so much better once it's all gone & you're not shedding all over - it's like the trauma of losing it is over at that point, ya know?
Just know when it grows back, it grows back fast!
    Sending lots of hugs*
