Hair
Just know that it won't be a good day, but my heart is with all of you! I gave some of my hats and scarves to my co-worker today for her mother-in-law which brought all of this back to the surface. I looked through the bag and it was almost hard to give them away, but that's what support is all about isn't it? Give what you can to those in need? She started rads today to her brain. I know scared, and my prayers are with her and her family. I am so thankful for all of us. Although we have lumps and bumps everywhere, we are very lucky people to have NHL. I am grateful for all of us.
Take care folks! I care deeply for all of you!

Not yet...
Hi Beth,
It's only been 7 days today for me, so thats probably a little too soon to start loosing hair...right? My roots don't hurt and I'm not getting fall-out in my brush or in the sink trap after washing. Soooo...(knock on wood) maybe I'll have a week or more to go still. I read it can start anywhere from 7 days on....we will see! I have some scarves, doo-rags and a cute short cut wig all ready to go when it does happen.

Yep - losing hair now
Hi, Beth and Sue,
My hair roots don't hurt or not least yet. But I was surprised that yesterday I saw my legs becoming bare then I pulled my hair and it just came right off!! Two days ago, I washed my hair - they felt rather dry and limp then later that day I was cleaning the bathroom and saw one of my hairs down - this was when I started to wonder. My husband got real upset and I comforted him. I found this rather amusing - I don't care about the hair loss because they don't hurt me and I don't have to blow dry anymore!! I am happy about that.
Now I am trying to figure out what to do- let my hair fall one by one, cut my hair real short or shave - I have not bought a wig yet but have a turban. My sweet father offered to pay for it. The wig is really for being in public and I plan to work from home using video counseling with my clients. But I am on medical leave and don't know when I am "ready" to work. God, this seems to go on with side effects with no prediction of when I can be up to work or down to rest. Think that few days before each treatment, I would be recovered mostly then be able to work 1 to 2 days - will that work? I hope so!
Hope your bodies remain pain-free as much possible.
Bless you,
Liz0 -

Hi Liz,
I've decided as soon as the first clump comes out, to have my hair dresser come to the house and just whack it all off and then immediately shave my head. He's on speed dial and knows to get the heck up here with his scissors and shears. I'm not going to let it fall out in drips and drabs, cuz I'm just not geared for a daily episode of hair loss drama. I'll use my wig for chemo treatment days at the clinic, or public outings, but for the rest of the time here at home I'm going commando!..ha! Sometimes I sit and think to myself..."what a sight you will be climbing out of the shower Sue...3 bumps on your chest (all little)..(ha!) and a bald head to boot!" Then I just sigh and say.."oh well"! So much to take in and digest...ya know?...Love...Sue0 -

Hi Y'All.
Sue - LOVE the hair attitude!!! Liz, same goes for you! I know it's different for you ladies, and I'm super impressed with your coping.
Vinny, I just did my 2nd round and my hair started to fall out. Didn't hurt at all. But I did cut it down to almost nothing (without actually shaving). Now here I am almost 60, been bald as a bat since I was 23, AND I DO NOT LIKE THIS ONE BIT! I think it's because I have big ears and wear glasses, and, frankly, I look ridiculous. BUT, it doesn't hurt, and I think that by the time I go through round 3 I will lose the rest. It seems to come fairly suddenly 2 - 3 days after my infusion, and then it stops. And it is obviously not the worst thing can happen.
Happy day, Y'All,
Tom0 -

It is hard to know what to do. I had semi prepared by cutting my hair in a shorter style prior to starting. When it finally started falling out in handfuls I just let that happen thinking maybe I wouldn't lose it all but let me tell you it was a mess and a constant reminder. I would not do it that way again. I would shave it and be done with it. I did lose it all so I really prolonged the whole process. I had a wig that I wore to work etc. and hats for around the house and non important errands. It was winter in Minnesota so no commando cuz I was always freezing!! I did find out that I have a nice shaped head and no birthmarks on my scalp! Haha! Now after being done for awhile it's about 3-3 1/2 inches long and ready for styling, maybe on Thursday. It came back thick and wavy. Hope this helps. Oh and I don't recall but if you are on R CHOP you will lose it all. R CVP maybe, maybe not. I have heard both. God bless. Mary0 -

Hi,Mary, Beth, Tom, Vinny and Sue,
I get ABVD treatments for Hodgkin's. My hair already started to fall day 10th after my 1st treatment! Yesterday was my 2nd. Guess those chemo meds are real powerful. Yes I will not commando by the time it gets cold here in Maryland - by October! A friend's friend made me acrylic caps - nice of her! I am thinking of making cotton caps out of old t-shirts. Saves me moola! I will cut my hair real short in a day or two and I probably will notice my little scar from hitting something when I was little. It will be weird...then it will be alright. Tom, being bald is the way to go nowadays. My brother in law decided to go bald just for fashion. Yes, it is different for ladies.
Great day to you,
